I had four sessions of Abraxane (nab-Paclitaxel) in late 2023. I lost all my hair but started to grow back almost immediately after I finished treatment.
Previously my hair was very straight, but it has grown back very curly. I am thinking about getting my hair cut and wondering how best to get it styled. If it will always be curly then I need to think about that. However if the newer growth is going to come through straight again then I need to manage that.
What are people’s experiences with post chemo hair?
I had my last chemo January 2024 and of course my hair grew back very curly, but the last 2 ish months I’ve noticed my straight hair again the ends are still curly/wavy, but this might just be because it short so it’s flicking at the end? So there’s a chance your straight hair might come back! I have had 2 hair cuts since it started growing back just to have some shaping, I googled short curly bob hair styles for inspiration and they suited my curly hair at the time xx
When I had chemo 12 years ago, my fine, straightish hair grew back as thick, wiry curls - very odd! After about 6 months, it straightened and is now back to its former density and texture. I’m not sure if the type of chemotherapy affects hair regrown. I had docetaxol, carboplatin and herceptin - 6 cycles of the former and herceptin for 12 months.
I have had two rounds of chemo, 11 years apart, with slightly different regimes. My hair was always straight but both times it came back with gorgeous curls which I loved. Sadly both times it returned to being very straight again. I am, however, sincerely hoping not to have the opportunity to try for a “third time lucky” round .
My hair first came back very curly but has now gone super straight. I’m waiting to see if it will stay like this or not as I always had wavy uncontrollable hair before. Finished chemo February 2022
