Are radiotherapy units open on bank hols?

Hello!

I’m 6 out of 8 chemos down. I’ll then have surgery and radiotherapy. I’m just getting my head round dates as want to plan some fun things to look forward to but have just realised that I may well be having chemo over Christmas and new year when I’d hoped to go and visit family. Does anyone know if they’re likely to have people in to do radio on boxing day and the next day which is a bank hol?

Hmm. I’d contact them and check if I were you. They reackon to run through daily without a break (apart from weekends) - I was zapped Good Friday and Easter Monday - but now and then they tie in essential maintenance with a Bank Holiday and make you miss a day - so I wasn’t zapped on the Royal Wedding day. They will know when any scheduled maintneance is.

Given my job I was amused that they zapped on Good Friday and not Royal Wedding Day.

Hi if y in Sussex no when I had mine they started on dec 27 and then I never had any on the bh they just do extra days to catch up at end sometimes they do a sat if u wanna check just call them

Not sure if they work BH in Oxford but to “catch up” on delays in treatment they opened on a Saturday. I did Tuesday to Saturday which was fine except I didn’t get 2 rest days as such as worked full-time Monday to Friday.

Not usually. I missed Good Friday and Easter Monday, followed by May day the following Monday. They worked Royal wedding day as there were already three days not working in less than two weeks.

At Exeter I had a session on the morning of May 30th. Normally I had afternoon appointments but was told that the staff only work mornings on a BH, so it’s a good idea to check rather than assume that they won’t be working.

My rads were over Christmas / New Year 2009 / 2010 in Aberdeen. They were open on bank holidays but only for urgent cases - we I think are classed as routine so I just caught up at the end, as it were, and had some 3 and 4 day weeks - which travelling in the snow was a Godsend!!

I’m just starting rads (St James Leeds) and they’ve given me all my dates but it looks like August bank hol and no zapping!

Hi

My rads went over the may bank holiday and the unit was closed. The machine also broke down during my rads treatment and one day had to be cancelled. They added the missing days on at the end
