Are there any younger women in the Oswestry/ Shrewsbury area?

Hi,
I am only 6 weeks into my journey but I was just wondering if there is anyone out there in the Oswestry/ Shrewsbury area who may be embarking on or going through their journey now or who has been through it and can offer some reassuring words!
I am 32, Oswestry based, diagnosed with IBC on the 05th Feb, had MX (20.02) and axcillary clearance (08.03), dont yet know if HER2+ or not. Recovering from ops now before i have chemo and radiotherapy in 4 - 6 weeks time!
I don’t have children as we had just started trying but we are going through fertility in this inbetween period so again, if anyone has any similar stories of hope they could share I would so appreciate it. i have never really used websites like this before so i am just feeling my way round!
Lots of love

Hi Sunshine
Really sorry you find yourself here, I know how isolating it can be not having someone of a similar age to talk to. I live in north wales so not too far away, I was diagnosed 11 months ago and felt really alone. However, just after i finished chemo the Younger Breast Cancer Network (UK) Facebook group was set up by Tors who posts on this site. Through this group ( which now has over 300 members) I have been able to link up with a number of other younger women in the north wales area…it really helped. Maybe you’d like to join the group for a bit of extra support and link up with us north wales ladies…this is the link Search Results | Breast Cancer Now

hello sunshine, sorry you find yourself having to be on this site.i am from shrewsbury but older than you at 50.could you ask your breastcare nurse if she is able to put you in touch with someone your own age or in similar circumstances?i know there are a few people from shropshire who meet up.if you look on left of screen under talking to others in similar situation then go to in your area you could put a message on there and see if any of them are younger.hope this helps.hope your recovery from the operations goes ok and good look with the fertility treatment.somehow we manage to find the strength to cope with this damned disease ,take care denise x

Hi Sunshine

Sorry you have to join us on here, but I’m sure you’ll find it a great source of info and support.
I was just starting my journey two years ago. I had a big lobular lump, grade 3, which resulted in me having an mx, with immediate recon, node clearance, chemo and rads. None of it is nice, but it is all ‘doable’.
I’m back at work full time, have pretty much adjusted to the ‘new normal’ of my life post treatment and am getting on with stuff and enjoying life to the full. Hence, I don’t visit the forums as much as I did. But ventured in tonight and saw your post and had to respond.
I’m one of the Shropshire group that meet up once in a while. None of us are as young as you are, but we range in age from our early 40s upwards - and we are quite a ‘young thinking’ bunch. We are just starting to talk about another meet up and you would be more than welcome to join us.
This is the Shropshire thread we use: Search Results | Breast Cancer Now
If you want to pm me with an email address or mobile number, that can be useful for keeping in touch too.

Good luck and remember, there’s no such thing as a silly question!

Just read the post above!

Denise, you would be more than welcome too! And we are about the same age!!

Hi Sunshine
I live near Welshpool so not far away; I’m in my 50’s but like to think I’m young at heart! I am now just over a year on from being diagnosed; I had high grade DCIS and had to have a mx in Feb last year but fortunately did not need any radio or chemo. They found some nodules on my lung following a pre-op scan and for weeks they couldn’t tell me for sure whether these nodules were malignant or not. It was only after I’d had a CT scan and bronchoscopy in June that they could tell me for definite that they weren’t malignant. It is an emotional roller coaster of a ride and like you I’d never used websites like this before but I now use it all the time for support.
When I was going through all the trauma last year of diagnosis and surgery I was so stressed and just couldn’t function. It was all I could do to get through each day; night times were difficult as I couldn’t sleep, it was also the time I would have panic attacks. Approaching the first anniversary was also a difficult time for me BUT now its been and gone I am starting to feel much better emotionally and starting to feel able to move on with my life.
Are you being treated in Shrewsbury or Wrexham?
If you ever want to meet for a chat then please send me a message via this website, if not, that’s ok too.

WOuld be nice to speak to a fellow Oswestrian so feel free to PM me. I am also a member of the FB page that Queenrefusenik mentioned and can highly recommend it as we are all young women who are going thru/ or finished our BC treatment. Take care x

Hi Sunshine, I live in Oswestry and I was diagnosed two years ago at the age of 35, though I was misdiagnosed for several months so should really have been diagnosed at 34. I had surgery in Telford and six rounds of chemo in Shrewsbury but I managed to get private health insurance so now I have my treatment in London. Annoyingly, by the time i was properly diagnosed I was Stage 4 (liver mets) but I’m currently very well and I just have scans every couple of months and treatment whenever something pops up. My last scans were clear so I have been able to take a break from them for a bit  Send me a PM if you’d like to chat and maybe meet up!
