Arimidex - bleeding and cholesterol

Hi Everyone,

I was diagnosed October 2007, had mastectomy, chemo, radiotherapy and have been on Arimidex since July. Starting noticing spots of blood in September and this Sunday discovered blood in the bed. My doctor is organising a visit to gynae at the hospital but I’m scared it’s the start of something new.

Also cholesterol has shot up to 8.2 - I’m now taking statins.

Anyone else experienced any of this??

Lynda

Hi Lynda,

I was supposed to have Arimidex for 5 years but after looking into all of the side effects refused to take it - vaginal bleeding and raised cholesterol are just a few known side effects so I am sure it is nothing abnormal but glad your Doctor is getting you checked out anyway. Gosh dont we have so many things to deal with once we have been diagnosed!
Hope this was a little bit of help to you,

Hi Lynda,

Have just stopped taking Arimidex after being on it for 10 months. One of the side effects I had was vaginal bleeding. Have had a vaginal examination, Dr thinks all is ok but has referred me for vaginal scan.

Hope all goes ok for you.

Hello Everyone!

Many thanks for your comments. You have made me feel better. It’s good to know I’m not the only one to suffer these side effects!

hi

i had bleeding too from arimedex (which worried me as i had my ovarys taken out in 06!) - (see thread ‘vaginal discharge’ tap it in the search option) the bleedin/discharge lasted a couple months or so, and then went as quick as it had arrived! i had an ultrascan which didnt show any probs, and then the whole problem cleared up very quickly - thankfully.

i started taking arimedex in nov 07 and the bleeding/discharged started january 08 until march time i think i cant quite remember now! which seems the symptoms tie in with 3 months after taking arimedex that bleeding/discharge occurred like you…but all is absolutly fine now, and i am very lucky not to suffer any effects at all from arimidex (apart from the odd bout of depression) but it is getting easier.

hope this helps put your mind at rest - although its still worth goin thro the tests etc to make sure.
