Introducing myself. Signed up 2 days ago and have been reading stories of others.
Maybe this helps for anyone diagnosed and being terrified. My grandfather found a lump under his throat. He also had a blueberry farm and he found the lump at the start of the harvest in July. Because of this he waited to go see a doctor until after the harvest 2 months later. When he did he had surgery immediately and then went back to work.
It was all removed then with no spreading. He was about 70 in 1988 and lived until in his 90s.
I had a biopsie 26/1 and I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer yesterday grade 3. Lymph nodes showed to be fine and no biopsie performed.
No stage was given but that I would get surgery to remove the lump in 3-6weeks. The surgeon didn’t mention the option for a mastectomy so I’m not given a choise although I’ve had a benign lump on the right side since 2009.
When you received a cancer diagnoses , were you given further appointments for other tests regarding possible spreading via other ways then lymph nodes?
Welcome to the forum @kellya . Personally I didn’t get any other tests prior to having lumpectomy , I think it may depend on size / grade / type of breast cancer also whether they suspect lump node involvement .Best of luck with your op. Jill x
Hi @kellya
After biopsiesi was given MRI scan then wide incision surgery that’s when they do pathology again to see if margins are clear , then treatment plan etc or if you need any other surgery or what treatment is needed , again depends on different consultants and hospitals
Hang in there will all come together you can always call your breast care nurse or helpline .
Good luck with surgery xxx
THank you Jill, I hope all went well for you. You’re probably correct. I’m a little worried as I had a mammogram exactly a year before I found the lump and it was said to be normal but now the lump is already 20mm. Kelly x
Hi there
I had a biopsy then went back for results and then had ct scan to check if it had spread. Thankfully it hadn’t. I was given a surgery date and then a date for post op results/treatment plan. At this appt the surgeon will give the full pathology report, and confirm if clear margins were achieved or if another op is needed, and also if chemo/radiotherapy is needed. If needed then you’ll be referred to oncology. Hope this helps. I’m getting my post op results on Monday (1 month after surgery) just to give you an idea of timeline x
Hello
I had the initial biopsies and then an MRI of my breasts, after which they confirmed my treatment plan - chemo, surgery, radiotherapy (in that order). I’ve never been tested for a further spread and have been told as I have had double mastectomy I won’t be able to have breast screening. And they don’t offer chest wall screening or bone scanning. I could go privately for chest wall screening/scanning but it would be around £600.
My GP has written to the hospital asking for me to have a full chest scan after my active treatment ends on the grounds I am very anxious but I’m not sure they’ll agree.
Wish you the very best xx
@stafford22 when you got the results of the biopsie did they give you that day an appointment for the ct scan? and yes I will get a sentinel lymph node biopsie at the day of surgery. Best of luck for Monday x
@jayesse a blood test can check for signs of spread to the bone. Have you had that? Hope you get the the scanning but if needed £600 is less then £2000. I would go for it, better then being anxious. Good luck x
Hi, at my biopsy results appointment on Thursday I was told I would need surgery, possibly chemo first to shrink the tumour, then radiotherapy afterwards. I have a ct scan today & mri tomorrow, both of these appointments were booked at my biopsy results appointment. After they have the scan they’ll have a full picture so can make a better plan of action. I have another appointment with the breast care team on Monday 3rd March to tell me what’s next. It’s the waiting and the uncertainty that’s worse isn’t it? I just want this horrible thing out of me!
I forgot to say mine is already in my lymph nodes hence the ct to see if it’s spread. I think in my case the mri is to get an accurate size of the lump x
