Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia (A.D.H.) confused & worried!

Hi everyone

I had a microductectomy Oct 2009 after I discovered a clear, discharge from my left nipple. The diagnosis was ADH with benign breast changes.

I had a check up at the breast clinic Friday just gone and the consultant was happy although she did not check for any discharge, she just checked for lumps and my lymph glands.

I hadn’t checked my nipple discharge since the op because it was too painful until yesterday. My breast was a little tender so I did a self breast check before I went to bed and was brave enough to express my nipple. To my horror the discharge is still there, coming from the same area of my left nipple.

I have emailed my breast care nurse but just wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I’m not sure whether I should be worried or not because the diagnosis was only ADH. My consultant did explain because of ADH I have an increased risk of developing breast cancer. I have to have another mammogram in August then back to breast clinic in 1 year. This schedule will be repeated until I am 50.

Should I be concerned? Any advise would be grateful while waiting for a reply from my breast care nurse.

Cheers.

I have been told I had ADH and recently underwent surgery to remove a lump. The consultant said he was putting me on an annual mammogram program for the next 5 years when they will review it. I had no inkling that anything was there and no symptoms or discharge. I had a mammogram just before Christmas 2010 which showed there was a small lump at the back of the left breast. The surgeon performed a stereocactic guidewire localised incision under general anaesthetic to remove it. It was quite a traumatic experience and I just hope I don’t get any more lumps as I never want to go through anything like this again. I don’t know if this is of any help to you but sometimes it helps to know other people have been through the same thing.
