August 2024 chemo starters

@lilly123 i’m the same as you, two more rounds of docetaxel & carbo. I got no break in the last three week round. They reduced my carbo by 20% but I’ve been utterly floored from day 3 this round. Admiring you all getting on with Halloween and parties. I’m really hoping the reduced carbo this round helps things pass quick, the cumulative effects have been very tough, major fatigue, nausea, flu like feelings.
I’ll be speaking to oncologist tomorrow and hopefully they can tweak things a little to get me to the end. They nearly put me back a week but my platelets picked up a little so I pushed through. Beginning to wonder if an extra week would have been so bad but I know what you mean about getting this out of the way before Christmas.
I’m so hungry but can’t eat much at all. I’ve had to take a tramadol at night for the stomach pains but that’s a gamble as we don’t want to get backed up!
We are getting there you strong bunch!!

@songbird1 and @lilly123 I feel absolutely floored.
I feel so poorly. I don’t know how to shake it. I can feel my pulse in my head. I hope it doesn’t last too long. X

@bluesatsuma it is rotten stuff. Rest when you can (i’ve barely been out of my room), drink lots, even though water can be tricky but call the emergency number if things are too rough. I hope you manage to get some rest. The stomach pains stopped me from sleeping but some antacid helped a little. I wished I could’ve slept through the last few weeks :disappointed:.
Sending hugs xx

Thinking of you ladies who are having a tough time at the moment. Remember that you have a 100% success rate of getting through hard days in the past so you can do so again. It may feel like you will never feel well again but one day soon you will wake up and realise you have turned a corner. You can do this.
Xx

Thank you for your words of wisdom @songbird1 and @sievehead. I think because EC seemed so side effect free for me, I thought docetaxel would be. I’m thinking i ought to call red card today. I can barely walk. No energy. Everything hurts. I did get a bit of sleep though. If the last 2 cycles of docetaxel are like this, I’m not going to manage. Xxx

@bluesatsuma, I hope they can give you something to help you feel better, I can’t deny the stuff is just awful. They have lessened my dosage by 20% on the carboplatin but I’m going to speak to the oncologist today and see what else they can do as the cumulative effect is chronic. The tramadol took ages to work last night so I was awake from 2am until 4.30.
We will get there!

@bluesatsuma no harm in giving your chemo line a call even if its just to ease your mind plus they may be able to help for your next round. Xx

@songbird1 the lying awake at night is just the worst isn’t it? I slept ok last night but woke every hour. I slept on the sofa as it was cooler in lounge, but came back up stairs when kids got up (at 6.45 !?!?!). Husband has taken afternoons off for next 3 days to help as the kids usually occupy themselves well in mornings. When is your next cycle? I hope the reduction helps. I don’t see my onco till 11th but will be asking her for more help with the side effects. Thank you for your support xxx

Thank you @sievehead. I did ring. Theyve advised epsom salt bath, regular paracetamol and codeine and more water. I’m to call back if no improvement. I had all that in the house so actioned it all. Hope it helps. I hate feeling useless and like a burden. My husband is so wonderful…i wish there was something i could do to show him how appreciated he is. Thank you for your encouragement xxx

@bluesatsuma I’ve tried the Epsom salts and paracetamol, certainly worked the first three rounds but round four was something else. So glad you have great support from your husband. I think mine is scared, angry and overwhelmed which makes us clash, best we keep our distance at the moment.
My next round is on 14/11 but I’m hoping things start to improve soon for me with the reduced dose.
Glad the red card people could offer you advice, hope it works xx

Morning everyone,

@bluesatsuma and @songbird1 sorry to hear you’re struggling but fringers crossed things will get better , hugs :people_hugging:

I find the not sleeping the worse, because i get easily irritated with everything and anything then feel guilty for feeling that way but truth is not much can be done apart from making rest priority even if just for the peace of mind of the children and husband that get the privilege to put up with me

If it’s hitting you that hard hopefully they’ll reduce the dose. I keep saying it but it’s so brutal.

I’ve just been told they won’t let me resume cold capping after all, something about not having a licence to resume it if it’s been stopped, even if my oncologist says it’s fine.
To say I’m miffed would be an understatement but I kept calm and didn’t get angry with the nurse (what’s the point?). Ugh.

Second MRI in as many days today before cycle 4 tomorrow. I’m in a bad mood now.

Sorry to everyone else feeling like crap. We’re closer to the finish line than the start at least. Hope everyone feels better swiftly.

*Yaaaas, they called back to say they were wrong and I CAN cold cap!!:cold_face:

@bigpickle I hope it all goes well. I hooe I haven’t made you nervous either! I am starting to feel brighter, so hopefully this will be short lived. Xxx

@dhmb me too. I’m a right grouch on limited sleep. I’ve been dozing all morning. Docetaxel is so different to EC as I really struggled to sleep on that. But now I can’t get enough! Putting my needs first is always hard for me, but I’m trying very hard to listen to my body. Xxx

@sez that is excellent news and I’m sure a big relief for you. Hope all goes well with no4 tomorrow xxx

My last wispy hair has started shedding again on the docetaxel. Frustrating as on EC, I shed no hair towards the end of cycle 2 or 3.

Hey

Well that wasn’t too bad. I had my first Herceptin injection in my thigh. The nurse took her time and apart from the initial pain, it was pretty good. They did observations on me for 30 minutes and no reaction.
Then I had the docetaxel infusion. The 2 nurses and I chatted about dogs for 10 minutes which if are going to have a reaction it will be during that time frame. No reaction . In fact I wolfed the sandwich and cup of tea down as I was so hungry. No red pee !!
Waiting game now.

We (me and the nurses) refer to docetaxel as the “hair thief”. It’s a matter of when not if sadly.
I’m keeping everything crossed it’s kinder to you than it was to me.
