August 2026 chemo starters

When I had my appointment with the oncologist I asked how it was to be administered cannula or picc and she said let me look at your hands, and said ok well put a picc in :woman_shrugging: I thought I was quite veiny especially when warm! The initial problem was the vein was easy to access but the cannula wouldn’t go in so another nurse had another go higher up on the same vein.

Good luck for Wednesday, I found the premeds made me more spaced out than the chemo lol

@Absolutely_Not That’s good to hear, thank you, it’s funny the little things that you get hung up on! I’m getting nervous about having the picc in, but hopefully it’ll save a lot of hassle down the line!

Hi @Absolutely_Not

How are you feeling after the 2nd cycle? I finally managed to get some sleep for the last 2 nights and feel so much better in myself. I assume it’s rhe meds that caused the insomnia so i’m not looking forward to that next time round.

My daughter did well, she didn’t get the grade in one subject which means she can’t study it at a’level. I can’t help with the mum guilt and wonder if all of this hadnt happened would she have got the grade she was predicted? She’s been brilliant though and chosen something else. Hope your daughter did well? x

Aside from insomnia my main side effect is the nausea and feeling woozy. I’ve found gingernut biscuits, toast or crumpets are great to help with that.

I’m catching up slowly. Had a few hours for the last 2 nights so I don’t feel too bad thank you.

Good luck for Wednesday, I hope your treatment goes ahead for you this week x

It is funny, I’m one of those people who need to know things and I get stressed when I don’t know lol.

I won’t lie, I’ve had a wee uncommon issue with mine but there’s a plan in place which I’m happy with. Everyone who sees me tells me that they are worth their weight in gold for the chemo :black_heart:

Really well. Night and day from last time, I ate like normal yesterday and today. Last time I lived on crackers, rice cakes and noodles cooked in bone broth for 3/4 days lol. Excellent, so glad you got a sleep! I was going to nap earlier but had a burst of energy and cleaned the bathroom and bedroom instead :joy:

Awww that’s good, glad she did well. My daughter did well too but got a D in maths which wasn’t expected. The exam was the day of my first operation though so I am right there with you with the mum guilt :black_heart: Thankfully their going to accept a late exceptional circumstances for that exam:crossed_fingers:She could do Higher Maths then but she’s decided against it.

Me too, I find they try to gloss over things not to overload, but then I’m left feeling like I don’t know what’s next!

I’m glad to hear the picc line is worth it in the long run, I just hate anything hospital wise in general, so now having a bit of a wobble!

That’s exactly me. My advice would be to ring your Breast Care Nurse. I had to go and seen mine one day and had a list of questions. She took the time to answer every single one.

Other than the injection to numb the area, I didn’t feel a thing and I was also surprised by how quick they did it. The Doctor was lovely and asked loads of questions about my diagnosis and lumpectomies and then informed me ā€˜this is nothing compared to what you’ve already been through!’ and she was right. I was told it might ache a few days after it’s been put in while it heals and beds in, I’m glad they told me as I would have panicked that it randomly started achy days later :black_heart:

@Absolutely_Not Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, you have a lot going on at the moment. It’s eased my mind a bit, do you find it gets in the way of everyday life much? I’m worried they might want to use my non-dominant arm, but I always sleep on that one and don’t want to cause a blockage!

Hi everyone question my PICC line was gutted yday at 0830 I have had some blood leakage today does anyone know if this is normal or not??

Hi @titch1,

I would call the cancer treatment line to get that checked. Mine was leaking but it was serous fluid, nurse suspects a lymph node was nicked on way in and it’s ā€˜oozing’, maybe trace amounts of blood in it.

Defo give them a call, better to be safe! Keep us posted and hope you’re ok :black_heart:

That’s ok, happy to help if I can :slightly_smiling_face:

Not really, I got a limbo from Amazon for showering. It’s a bit uncomfortable at first but you’ll soon get used to the position you like it lying in. Mine is in my dominant arm purely because I got lymph nodes removed in my non-dominant arm and they won’t usually use the arm they’ve been removed from. I’ll be honest I do sleep on the side my PICC is in I just don’t actually lie on my arm and have it out in front of me :black_heart:

@Absolutely_Not apparently this normal 24hrs after - normally would have had it cleaned today but due to the weekend and chemo Monday they will sort then. If it gets worse over night will seek advice again xx was going to try and fit in my last run without chemo in my system tomorrow but will have to be a walk now x

That’s good to know. Glad they put your mind at rest. Yes take it easy, hope you have a lovely walk and it doesn’t get any worse overnight :black_heart:

So pleased you’re feeling better this time. The food thing is strange isn’t it. I’m making alot of smoothies to get vegetables and fruit inside me as I just don’t fancy eating them. Crumpets, toast and chicken are my go to most of the time otherwise.

I’m glad your daughter is sorted for her studies. Mine got several lower grades than her predicted scores but some of her friends did too so I wondered if it was the exams.

Hi mssteel,
Long time no speak!
Hope you are doing ok…I know what you mean about your body feeling disconnected, it’s surreal isnt it?

I’m glad to have the 1st one done, just waiting to see how I fare now the steroids have stopped.

Sending love and well wishes

Hi Bella,
Were you given some steroids to take home with you?
If you did they may be the cause of you not being able to sleep well. I was advised not to take the last tablet after 3pm for that reason.
Just thought i’d check.
Hope you are ok x

Hi Jackie,

Lovely to hear from you! I too am enjoying a walk everyday which I think is helping keep my head clear.
I am finding that I am more hungry than normal but for healthy foods so thats good!

I am a vosene girl! The scent is so nastalgic!

I would ring the team I’m
