When I had my appointment with the oncologist I asked how it was to be administered cannula or picc and she said let me look at your hands, and said ok well put a picc in I thought I was quite veiny especially when warm! The initial problem was the vein was easy to access but the cannula wouldnāt go in so another nurse had another go higher up on the same vein.
Good luck for Wednesday, I found the premeds made me more spaced out than the chemo lol
@Absolutely_Not Thatās good to hear, thank you, itās funny the little things that you get hung up on! Iām getting nervous about having the picc in, but hopefully itāll save a lot of hassle down the line!
How are you feeling after the 2nd cycle? I finally managed to get some sleep for the last 2 nights and feel so much better in myself. I assume itās rhe meds that caused the insomnia so iām not looking forward to that next time round.
My daughter did well, she didnāt get the grade in one subject which means she canāt study it at aālevel. I canāt help with the mum guilt and wonder if all of this hadnt happened would she have got the grade she was predicted? Sheās been brilliant though and chosen something else. Hope your daughter did well? x
Aside from insomnia my main side effect is the nausea and feeling woozy. Iāve found gingernut biscuits, toast or crumpets are great to help with that.
It is funny, Iām one of those people who need to know things and I get stressed when I donāt know lol.
I wonāt lie, Iāve had a wee uncommon issue with mine but thereās a plan in place which Iām happy with. Everyone who sees me tells me that they are worth their weight in gold for the chemo
Really well. Night and day from last time, I ate like normal yesterday and today. Last time I lived on crackers, rice cakes and noodles cooked in bone broth for 3/4 days lol. Excellent, so glad you got a sleep! I was going to nap earlier but had a burst of energy and cleaned the bathroom and bedroom instead
Awww thatās good, glad she did well. My daughter did well too but got a D in maths which wasnāt expected. The exam was the day of my first operation though so I am right there with you with the mum guilt Thankfully their going to accept a late exceptional circumstances for that examāShe could do Higher Maths then but sheās decided against it.
Thatās exactly me. My advice would be to ring your Breast Care Nurse. I had to go and seen mine one day and had a list of questions. She took the time to answer every single one.
Other than the injection to numb the area, I didnāt feel a thing and I was also surprised by how quick they did it. The Doctor was lovely and asked loads of questions about my diagnosis and lumpectomies and then informed me āthis is nothing compared to what youāve already been through!ā and she was right. I was told it might ache a few days after itās been put in while it heals and beds in, Iām glad they told me as I would have panicked that it randomly started achy days later
@Absolutely_Not Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, you have a lot going on at the moment. Itās eased my mind a bit, do you find it gets in the way of everyday life much? Iām worried they might want to use my non-dominant arm, but I always sleep on that one and donāt want to cause a blockage!
I would call the cancer treatment line to get that checked. Mine was leaking but it was serous fluid, nurse suspects a lymph node was nicked on way in and itās āoozingā, maybe trace amounts of blood in it.
Defo give them a call, better to be safe! Keep us posted and hope youāre ok
Not really, I got a limbo from Amazon for showering. Itās a bit uncomfortable at first but youāll soon get used to the position you like it lying in. Mine is in my dominant arm purely because I got lymph nodes removed in my non-dominant arm and they wonāt usually use the arm theyāve been removed from. Iāll be honest I do sleep on the side my PICC is in I just donāt actually lie on my arm and have it out in front of me
@Absolutely_Not apparently this normal 24hrs after - normally would have had it cleaned today but due to the weekend and chemo Monday they will sort then. If it gets worse over night will seek advice again xx was going to try and fit in my last run without chemo in my system tomorrow but will have to be a walk now x
So pleased youāre feeling better this time. The food thing is strange isnāt it. Iām making alot of smoothies to get vegetables and fruit inside me as I just donāt fancy eating them. Crumpets, toast and chicken are my go to most of the time otherwise.
Iām glad your daughter is sorted for her studies. Mine got several lower grades than her predicted scores but some of her friends did too so I wondered if it was the exams.
Hi Bella,
Were you given some steroids to take home with you?
If you did they may be the cause of you not being able to sleep well. I was advised not to take the last tablet after 3pm for that reason.
Just thought iād check.
Hope you are ok x
Lovely to hear from you! I too am enjoying a walk everyday which I think is helping keep my head clear.
I am finding that I am more hungry than normal but for healthy foods so thats good!
