Hi @helold

We are the same day. I agree it is overwhelming, and although we want a start date, it makes it very real once you do.

Yes I calculated done for Christmas too :crossed_fingers: take care, stay positive xx

I’ve not actually bought any yet, they’re just sitting in the basket waiting patiently :joy: I’ve never been one for hats, never thought they suited me so :crossed_fingers: the wig I get is like my hair but better!

I do that when I only get a couple of inches off!

I am ok thanks, how are you doing?

Hey,

It is so normal to feel overwhelmed, how are you feeling today?

I also did the ā€œfinished before Christmasā€ calculation.

Hi All, how are we?

If I start on 13th I worked out my last chemo will be around my birthday in early December, so planning to celebrate it for that reason even if I feel rubbish. Also means a break for Christmas before radiotherapy thank goodness.

Hi, I’m distracting myself with buying things to help me through the chemo and trying to see friends before I start. I’m on holiday from work next week so going to try to prepare for the week after when chemo starts. Honestly not having appointments this last 2 weeks has been a relief, especially as there will be so many once treatment starts.

Hope everyone is doing ok today :purple_heart:

Regarding a wig, my friend said I should go all out for it and get something completely opposite to my normal hair. Not sure I’ll follow her advice

Hi @tiro

I’m also using the ā€œcompleted by Christmasā€ thought. I love Christmas and keep telling myself it’s not far away.

I had to go to the unit today where I will be having my chemo and felt so overwhelmed. I’m having to have injections every 3 weeks to put me into menopause so had my first one today. Is anyone else having this?

I asked about cold capping while I was there. I was told my treatment would take approx 2 hr 15 minutes to administer but I needed to add 2 hpurs for the cold capping process (30 minutes before treatment starts and 1hr 30 minutes after it’s ended). I’m going to try it and see how it get on.

I too keep adding wigs and things to my Amazon basket but haven’t actually bought anything yet.

Hope everyone else is ok

I’m the same! I keep adding all sorts of things to my basket. I really hope you get some good time to relax on your holiday next week! I’ve been off the last two weeks myself, so I’m back on Monday. I’ve actually been working from home since May after my first surgery. It’s been so strange going from constant appointments and loads of letters every week to almost nothing, other than seeing the BCN!

That’s what everyone keeps saying to me! I want as close as possible to normal hair please :joy: I’m hoping it’ll be easier for the kids that way :black_heart:

Good morning, I just wanted to ask is anyone continuing to work through their treatment. I’ve been off work since being diagnosed as I’ve reslly struggled with my mental health, and 2 surgeries. In hindsight I wish I had tried to work through but I only managed to start counselling about a month ago which has really helped.

I now feel in a better place knowing what treatment i am having and am planning to go back to work at the end of August on a phased return where i will be working from home alot of the time. Some friends think I should wait until after treatment has ended but I want some routine and normality back in my life where possible. I appreciate i may have days where I struggle once treatment has started but work are understanding of that.

I just wondered if anyone else was planning to work through.

Hey, I have worked through and plan to continue doing so if I can. I had 2 weeks off after each of my surgeries and have worked from home since beginning of May when I had the first surgery.

I’m planning to work during chemo, depending on how I am with side effects etc. Thankfully work have been really flexible with me and have just said to play it by ear and if I need to take time off or start late/finish early some days then I can.

I’m one of those people who need the normality of work. A lot of my family and friends think I should be off, and are surprised I’m not, but I think I would really struggle if I didn’t have that bit of routine to be honest.

You’ve got to do what is right for you. You know better than anyone what will help you through this :black_heart:

Thanks @Absolutely_Not I think it’s the normality and routine I need. I suffer with bad health anxiety so when diagnosed it made that 100 times worse and I just couldn’t think straight for a long time. I really wish I’d have been able to continue at work where I could but my role is customer facing and quite challenging alot of the time so i just didnt think I could handle it and work agreed. They are being so accommodating and like yours offering for me to work from home but go in on days I feel ok. It really is play it by ear isn’t it.

I’m going away next week with the children and hubby for a break before it all starts and i’m really looking forward to it. Hope you have a lovely weekend x

I think I would struggling without it if I’m being honest. Oh no, it’s hard enough getting this diagnosis without the health anxiety. My husband gets really bad health anxiety same as you whereas I have a ā€˜it’ll be fine!’ attitude. Maybe being off at the start is what you needed then. I think the fact you have health anxiety and you’re now thinking about working through treatment is amazing in itself! It might not have been like that if you didn’t take that time at the start to try and get your head round everything :black_heart: It really is a case of playing it by ear, my BCN told me to work if I wanted to as long as I didn’t feel pressured too and I don’t. My boss keeps asking me when I’ll be taking time off!

Oh lovely!! I hope you have a great time away and a lovely weekend :face_blowing_a_kiss:

I’m planning on working through my chemo as much as possible. My oncologist said he would be happy to sign me off for the whole time, but I think I need some normality. Work has been great and know that some days I may not make it in, or only for a short time.

Looks like there’s a few of us starting on the 13th. Currently thinking I’m in the calm before the storm. Chemo unit visit on Monday followed by wig choosing. Then nothing until PICC line on the 12th, chemo 13th, then radioactive marker insertion on 14th. Though if the weather doesn’t cool down I may be trying to embrace the bald, the thought of wearing a wig or hat in the heat doesn’t fill me with joy.

Thank you. It’s been so hard as the trigger for my health anxiety is cancer. I’ve spent so much time in therapy talking about it and then hit with a diagnosis myself made it so much harder. I’m definately working on having the same attitude you have and trying to be more positive x

I start a day after you guys on the 14th. I had to visit my chemo unit yesterday as I had to have an injection. It was actually really beneficial being there and i now know what to expect.
Good luck with choosing your wig. I’ve seen so many lovely ones online and think I will get one incase the cold cap doesn’t work for me.
