I really hope that therapy is helping! I’m not entirely sure if my attitude is one to aim for as it’s probably just me being stubbornly independent and plowing on. Maybe we can meet in the middle and have a happy medium

I start chemo on Monday, I am so scared!
i am having weekly Paclitaxol for 12 weeks then moving onto ec every 2 weeks for 8 weeks!
Had my picc line fitted yesterday which I hate already

Had my pre chemo appointment yesterday and I start on 12 August.
The chemo nurse went through everything then she took me to the chemo unit and I met the staff there and looked around.
I spoke to a couple of patients who were trying the cold capping and I am going to try it. Nurse said it’s unlikely to work on my fine hair very well and I’ll prob lose at least 50% at best but even if I go bald since it apparently helps regrowth and texture afterwards it’s prob still worth doing. I’ve already bought my wig so that’s ready and spent a small fortune on Amazon of stuff I might need.
Loads of info to read and I’ve been given the steroid tablets I have to take for 3 days each time starting the day before chemo.
I have ordered some numbing cream ready for the injections I’ll have to give myself at home to boost my white blood cells after each chemo session.
Was all a bit overwhelming to be honest but everyone was really nice. Dreading starting and can’t wait in equal measure at the moment.

@aimee11 It is scary I guess we wouldn’t be normal if we weren’t scared. Had a visit to the chemo unit yesterday and had the chance to speak to some of the patients who were all very welcoming. Seeing the set up has made me feel a little more comfortable but it’s still really scary - the warnings about infection risks etc are scary but it’s reassuring that there is help on hand 24 hours a day if there’s any problem, and they want you to call early with any symptoms - I was told please be a bother!

I will be an August starter. Chemo due to start 05 August. I have been diagnosed with HER2+ 2 areas in my left breast and also in 1 lymph node. MRI has shown up another 3 areas of concern 1 more in breast, 1 more lymph node under my arm and 1 lymph node behind breast bone. I will have another ultrasound on Tuesday to investigate these areas.
Finding it all a bit overwhelming.

Hi @daffodil8 bless you, you have so much going on and still more investigations it’s no wonder you are finding it overwhelming. Since my initial diagnosis in March there have been lots of twists and turns and i’ve had to have additional scans after my CT showed 2 areas of concern. It’s all so worrying but we are here to support each other.
Have you been referred for Counselling or any support? I really found that has helped me. I’ve also signed up to the Someone like me on the BCN website and am just waiting to be matched to a volunteer who has been in a similar position to me (diagnosis, treatment, etc).
I really hope your ultrasound goes ok on Tuesday and will be thinking of you for your first chemo next week x
@surreydeb which numbing cream have you bought. I too have to inject myself. I’m not short of flesh to stick the needle in, but I hadn’t thought of using a cream first.
Hi @helold I’ve ordered Emla cream - apparently they use it for tattooing etc. and I know use it (or something similar) on kids who need procedures with needles - and it says on the outside of the box it is for a less painful needle experience! Thought I’d give it a go - I know you have to put it in for a while beforehand but that’s not a problem anything to make it easier to deal with!

all went well! Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and feel ok so far. Tried the cold cap which was the worst part but going to stick it out. 1 down 16 to go

Is anyone here having extensive chemo for TNBC? I have 2 regimens of 4 rounds each. First regimen is week 1 - taxol, carbo, and keytruda then just taxol for week 2 and 4. I do that 4 times. Then my second regimen is the Red Devil and Keytruda every 3 weeks for 4 cycles. I started last week and it finishes the end of December.
It feels like such a long journey ahead of me before we even get to surgery let alone radio.

I’m on similar. I started in May and am 11 weeks in. I’ve done all my Pembro (Keytruda)/Paclitaxel/Carboplatin infusions and my last Paclitaxel infusion is this Friday, then onto the Pembro/EC next week but for three cycles. Even though it takes months to get through, it really feels like it’s flown by so far. Not sure what I’m going to do with myself when I go from the weekly to 3 weekly though!
