I hope it went ok today. I was yesterday for my first and felt the same. It isn’t easy is it! x
I asked the oncologist about parking and they said no, but when I arrived for my first chemo I was allowed to get a permit for my next session.
My questions related mostly to my child and impact. I forgot to ask how long it would take with cold capping but found out yesterday during my first one.
Lunch of a sandwich was provided.
I’m having a port inserted tomorrow as I decided that was the best option for me.
What worries you most - have you got the questions ready for that?
It certainly isnt hope your ok x
So my chemo due to start Wednesday this week was cancelled due to my lumpectomy scar becoming hard and lumpy and I had redness spreading around it and on the opposite side of my breast. I saw a breast care surgeon on Tuesday and been put on 10 days of antibiotics. Had an ultrasound and there’s a pool of stuff deep under the scar site. She aspirated it as much as possible and the conclusion is that’s it’s remaining haematoma which has decided to play up for some reason 7 weeks after I had two large haematomas totalling 240ml surgically removed two weeks after my lumpectomy in June.
I was so disappointed as was all geared up to start chemo this week. I’m being reviewed by both my surgeon and oncologist next Monday but no chemo next week either as can’t have it while I’m on the antibiotics. I’m hoping the next week will be ok to start - I’m very anxious about the delay but obviously have to be safe.
Oh no i’m so sorry you weren’t able to start your chemo. That must have been so frustrating for you when you had prepared yourself for it to happen.
I’ve been having wound issues as well but mine is from my node clearance and am waiting for a call from oncology today to tell me whether my chemo can go ahead tomorrow or not.
I hope the antibiotics kick in so you can get started soon x
(Should have started Feb but March instead starter) @surreydeb As frustrating as it is Ìt is also good to know the team looking after you are making sure you are as fit as possible before you start chemotheraphy. On the plus side Ìt will also be a lot cooler next week onward. Take it from me Chemotheraphy plus heatwave is not a great mix. Be assured they will have you in just as soon as they think your body will cope.
Hope the antibiotics help and soon.
Thank you @bella80 I hope yours can go ahead xx
Thank you @wibbles I know it’s for the best but it’s frustrating to be all geared up for it and then feel like my body is letting me down again. Seems like an age since my initial lumpectomy surgery and not helped by having to have a second one to clear massive haematomas. All while I had broken ribs a lung injury and spleen injury from an accident I had in May - it’s been an awful year! Also doesn’t help my anxiety about maybe an escaped cell floating round my body looking to cause me harm - that black hole I’m sure we’ve all looked in. Hopefully it’ll go ahead the week after next but I should know more next week. So glad I’ve been having some counselling with Macmillan the past few weeks has really helped me manage my anxiety - so looking forward to my session next week!
I’ve just had my chemo cancelled for tomorrow now too. I’ve been chasing oncology all week as was told I needed an appointment this week and they rang me at 545pm. They’ve not given me the steroids so I can’t start chemo until I’ve had them.
She’s hoping I can start Saturday or Monday but I’ve got to ring the unit tomorrow to chase up (the Consultant is emailing them tonight!)
I was diagnosed at the end of March so I just want to get started as like you I’m worried about any stray cells xx
Oh @bella80 I’m sorry yours is cancelled too. Hopefully they get the steroids to you so you can get going very soon. It’s hard not to worry isn’t it? But I’m sure we will both get through these delays and get our treatments as soon as possible and put these delays behind us - just hard going through it
It really is, I think all the nerves i had for starting chemo tomorrow have turned to anxiety tonight. As you said we will get through this though.
I hope you get a new start date soon. I should find out tomorrow fingers crossed x
Hi ladies I’ve just bought an adapted sweatshirt from Asda George £21 including delivery after a recommendation if anyone is after one. They have a few different items on the Asda George site xxx
@titch1 thanks I’ll take a look!
@tiro glad you can move onto Radiotherapy, wishing you all the very best xx
@surreydeb sorry to hear this, must be tough news, wishing you all the best with it and speedy recovery so you can move onto next stage xx
Hi all
Apologies for silence, heads been a bit all over the place…I had initial appointment 27th Jul, then didn’t go again till Tuesday 11th aug and had low white blood count prior to this so I just didn’t know if it could go ahead or not.
Anyhow, I have been able to proceed and had first session of EC yesterday, with cold cap. It went well, cold cap was bearable I think it adds on about 2 hours. Total time was around 4 hours.
Was fine after the E part, the C part made me sleepy, so I slept straight after while wearing cold cap, came home slept rest of day and night bar an hour, used fan to keep cool in the heat.
I have anti sickness tablets & one day of steroids, feeling ok today, mentally & physically…just going to take it one day at a time.
Sending positive thoughts to you all. Any questions please shout up, I’ll help if i can xx
Thanks sparkes2, get my picc in next Friday starting the Monday after 24th going to try the cold cap myself do they wet your hair before ect….
Hi @titch1
Yes they wet your hair before and put leave in conditioner on it, they had some at the hospital but I had taken my own.
I had a fitting for the cap the day before, had a medium inner with a small outer cap, so you mix & match.
@sparkles2 glad all went well. Thanks for your experience of the cold cap as I’m going to do this when I can eventually start my chemo! I think I’ll take my own leave in conditioner with me too.
Hope all goes well with your appointment tomorrow @surreydeb and they can give you a new start date.
I have my first chemo tomorrow morning, really nervous but going to try the cold cap too. I’ve not had a PICC fitted yet, did anyone else have one fitted on the day of their first session? I’ve seen alot of people say they had theirs put in before hand x
