Awaiting an appointment at my local breast clinic

Am awaiting an appointment at my local breast clinic. Is there a way anyone can tell me or advice to read up on what to expect. The appointment will also be in my local women’s hospital…Am very anxious and have also a bit of pain my my left breast.

Hi SM34A

I hope you get your appointment soon, as you’re probably feeling very much in worrying “limbo land” at the moment.

At both my initial appointments, I was firstly given a thorough physical examination of the breast, then a Mammogram. You wait for the results of that, which were given there and then. Dependent on what is visible from that, you may then go on to have biopsies taken, if there are any obvious lumps/tumours.

It was all carried out at the same appointment. Mine were back in 2006/07, so I “think” I’m safe to say, that’s pretty standard procedure for any breast clinic, these days.

I then had to wait a couple of weeks for the biopsy results, which was pretty agonising, the “not knowing” wait!

I’d strongly advise you to take someone with you to appointments, if you can. From the “support” sense, and company while waiting, as your likely to be there some time. But also to have an extra “set of ears” for any information you’re given, as yours may feel a bit overloaded by/with it all.

Here’s a helpful link from the Breastcancernow information site, with further info:

I hope all goes well with your appointment, and it turns out to be nothing serious for you, flower. Please will you pop back on the Forum to let us know how you go on. Or if you’re are struggling in the meantime, and need some support.  Delly XX
