Awaiting appointment- overthinking

Hi everyone. Just want to say how comforting this site has been over the last week. You’re all so amazingly brave and reading your comments is actually helping a lot.

So, I recently turned 42 and in the last 2 weeks I found a large lump in right inner quadrant (feels attached to chest wall about 3cm, fixed). Gp did full exam and did 2ww referral to breast clinic (told it’s more 3-4 week wait). Seemed to appear from nowhere with dull aching and occasional sharp pains that are now in my right arm and only relieved with pain killers.

My worry is that I feel like I am now massively overthinking. I have had quite awful pelvic pain for about 6-8 months that prevents me sleeping or wakes me up. It’s the most awful gnawing ache. Can’t help thinking it’s now all connected. Also, my period has decided to act even more bizzare by hardly arriving this month. Pretty sure I am peri-menopausal due to prolonged light periods every 21-35 days for 18 months.

You can see I’m spiralling whilst waiting for my appointment. This was supposed to be short. Apologies. Just wanted to see if anyone had similar symptoms and had benign outcomes? Thank you.

Dear @whiterabbit83

Welcome to the forum, we are all here for you with love and support.

So sorry to read, what going on with you, it’s all so worrying at the moment, our minds are all over the place, thinking the worst, let’s hope your appointment comes through quickly.
The waiting time is endless, anxiety takes such a big toll on us, maybe have a notepad to hand scribble down anything that is on your mind that you need to discuss with your consultant, as we can forget the most important thing on the day.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome, please come back to let us know how you’re getting on.

Wishing you well, with health and happiness going forward.

Hugs Tili :pray::rainbow::pray::rainbow:

Thank you for your lovely, kind words. I think the notepad idea is good, I will certainly try. I have ADHD which can exacerbate anxiety. I’m finding long walks and music to help right now as well.

Have a lovely day, Clare x

Totally normal to spiral like this. I would say try to distract yourself as much as possible and try where possible not try to link everything. If this journey has taught me one thing it’s that patience is key… bloody hard to practice, but will help with the sanity.

I’m post surgery and I am even reading my pain from healing in my head to it must be connected to another cancer… so you are not alone.

Try not to google or get ahead of yourself. If you have questions pop on here or speak to breast care nurses… Google isn’t your friend!

My periods went all over the place the minute I started to need tests. It was the immense stress and pressure. Odd as it sounds once you get a diagnosis you start to feel more in control.

I’m keeping everything crossed it’s a cysts or something that can be left well alone but we are all here for you either way.

Write it down in your note book and try where possible to watch nice things, have catch ups with your pals and get out in the fresh air. The waiting is the worst and we are here for you x

Thank you so much for sharing and your advice. Went for a long coastal walk with husband and son. Had fish and chips and ice creams. It really helped. You’re right, I’m pretty sure it’s stress because as if by magic, after a lovely relaxing day, boom! Period!

Aw I’m glad your period arrived. This will be the hardest part- waiting. This is why I’m replying at 4am as I’m waiting for my post surgery results on Thursday.

Honestly, do the nice little things, the sorts of things you did through lockdown. Picnics in the garden, walks on the beach. I’m near Brighton so right on the coast so there has been a lot of walking along the front for me.

I’ve been really honest with my husband as well. When I’m really scared I talk through what’s scaring me. Sometimes it’s rational and sometimes not. I usually feel better after sharing.

You have every right to be scared, but as long as you know even at 4 am in the morning or on the worst day you’re not on your own.

Keep us posted on the results and a big squeeze xx

Thank you. Sorry that you’re awake into the early hour. I’ve been the same the last week. Glad to know we both have supportive husbands and people around us, it’s so important. Hope you manage to relax and can rest x
