I am 56 and had a recall after a routine mammogram. That was on December 19th where I had another mammogram, breast examination, 2 core biopsies and a clip marker put in, followed by another mammogram to check it was in the right place.
Initially I was told I would speak to the consultant at the end of the appointment, but this didn’t happen. It was an 8.15am appointment and I’m not sure if he was there or not and it was also the day of my father in law’s funeral, so I needed to get back home for that too.
I have another appointment tomorrow with the breast surgeon. I wasn’t given any indication of what it was, but reading the room, I’m guessing it is something of a concern, I have a 7mm lump in the upper quadrant of my left breast, which I couldn’t feel myself.
I’ve probably read too much and have resigned myself to the fact that it is probably something that needs treatment, very up and down over Christmas. It helps to read other people’s experiences and I will let you know the outcome.
@polly51 good luck with your appointment tomorrow I am sure you have read that the waiting before you know what treatment you need is the worse part. If it helps I was going to see a consultant at one of my early appointments but didn’t like you and it was all down to getting the right surgeon for the surgery they thought I needed. Hope tomorrow goes ok x sending you love
Wishing you all the best for a positive outcome. The waiting game is absolutely horrible and to go through Christmas with that hanging over your head is awful. Do please let us know how you get on, and know you have an army of support on here. x
Just wanted to wish you well today. I know it’s so difficult, and I’m sorry you have had this hanging over you over Christmas, but whatever happens it is always better knowing. Whatever the outcome we will all be here to support you. Best of luck. x
I thought I sent an update, but can’t find it now.
I saw the surgeon who said it was some kind of rare adenoma (squamous?). The biopsies were too small to be certain so the pathologist recommended a lumpectomy in the meeting. However the surgeon disagrees and was not at that meeting, so will discuss it in this Friday’s meeting as he prefers a vacuum biopsy. They will phone me on Friday.
I just spoke to the breast surgeon and I’ll be having a lumpectomy on 5th February. I asked again what it was called - Adenosquamous proliferation, but not 100%.
I had my lumpectomy on the morning of Wednesday 4th February, a day earlier than planned. I was quite sick afterwards but eventually managed to keep some food down and go home that evening. I’ve come out in a rash all over the affected area, like prickly heat rash, I think from the iodine. So took some antihistamines. Results on 26th February. X
Sorry you were sick @polly51 but well done on getting through it. One big step done!
How are you feeling now?
Slow and steady recovery now. Lots of rest, lots of good food, get some walking done once you feel up for it and try to do your arm exercises
Thanks @foxgem. I’m going for a walk with my daughter today to get some fresh air. Pain has gone down so I’ll stay off the codeine as it was making me groggy x
