Hello, I’ve been lurking for a short time and decided I needed to put on the big girl pants and introduce myself, tell my all to familiar tale and see if anyone had any useful hints / tips or advice for me.
just over 5 weeks ago I was very alarmed to discover a large lump in my breast - not by touch, I saw it in the mirror as I was getting ready for bed. Obviously some probing followed and I decided immediately that on Monday morning I’d contact my gp. This was a Saturday night. So, Monday morning my gp got me in at 9am and agreed she could feel it and I was referred to the breast clinic. My appointment was nearly 2 weeks later, but having had an issue some time in the past which was nothing, I was actually doing a really good job of telling myself everything would be fine.
At the breast clinic I saw the consultant first, who instantly saw the lump, examined me and said I’d need a mammogram, ultrasound and if it was a cyst they could drain it, if it wasn’t, they may decide to take some biopsies. Indeed, this was the case - my lump was found to be a chain of 3, and I also have / had an enlarged lymph node in my axilla. I had 12 core biopsies taken, and titanium clips put in. I had another mammogram and then saw the consultant again, with a breast nurse present. Due to some looks I saw being exchanged between the very lovely nurses who took such good care of me, and a few things which were said to me, I left the appointment feeling certain that, at the very least, they strongly suspected my lumps to be cancerous, although no one said this to me.
Several days after, I received a copy of a letter the consultant had sent to my gp, and it stated that I have “multi focal disease” measuring 2.8mm, 1.6mm and 1.3mm, plus the enlarged lymph node.
After what feels like an endless wait - 24 days - I have a follow up appointment on Tuesday this week to get the results. I am honestly preparing myself for a cancer diagnosis, but obviously hoping for the best.
At least I’ll know, this waiting has been horrible, my mind has been on overdrive as I know everyone here will understand completely.
