Awaiting surgery

Hi,

I have been recently diagnosed with primary BC and have surgery in 2 weeks time. I am having a lumpectomy and breast reduction surgery and wondered what to expect in terms of recovery from surgery and anyone’s thoughts of this surgery in general.
Sorry, new to forums

Many thanks

Sarah

Hi sarahfrjo,  welcome to the forum.  I had different surgery to you but the healing and physiotherapy tend to be the same.  I had a mastectomy including removal of lymph nodes and a delayed reconstruction 2 years later.  After about 3 months you should be pretty much back to normal in terms of movement but may feel a little tighter.  I have recovered almost full range of movement.  I found the emotional side harder to deal with than the physical but it gets better with time.  You’ll need to get a front fastening post surgery bra with pockets, some front fastening pyjamas and a small cushion to protect you from the seatbelt on the journey home.

Here’s the BCN information page about surgery:  breastcancernow.org/information-support/facing-breast-cancer/going-through-treatment-breast-cancer/surgery

the standard physio will be given to you by your breast cancer physio and you’ll need to do these exercises daily, taking it gently to begin with.

I hope all goes well. X
