As the discussion topic says i’m currently waiting to see the breast clinic…
I’m so scared and have prepared myself for the worst but im trying to keep myself positive…
I’m currently writing a diary of my thoughts and feelings which seems to be helping me abit… maybe this idea will help others…
What can i expect from the clinic do any of the tests hurt please be honest tell me if they do… i need to know as much as i can before i get there. Has anybody been in my position when they are waiting for an appointment and the news to be good/not cancer? I’m 23, i always thought that was to young to worry about breast cancer… please anything you post will help
You will probably get examined, then mammogram and then ultrasound and poss biopsy if they can see anything.
They are usually quite gentle when examining you. The mammogram can be quite painful as they have to squeeze you tight in the plates to get the best images. The Mammo only takes a few minutes. The ultrasound is painless and if they do a biopsy they give you a little painkiller injection so you dont feel anything.
Mine was bad news at 38 but most breast lumps are harmless. I wish you the best of luck and fingers and toes and everything else are crossed for you. Lots of love
Andrea xx
You may find it helpful to have a look at the BCC booklet about being referred to a breast clinic, it gives lots of information on what to expect. You can find it by going to the following link:-
Hey worried, first thing is do not panic…I guess you have alump which needs further investigation?
My experience of the breast clinic was good, everyone is there to reassure and make you feel comfortable, the nurses and technician (who will do the mammo) are experienced at putting ladies at ease although it is a bit weird having a stranger handle your boobs as if they were their own, remember they see hundreds of boobs every day! Do not be afraid to ask questions no matter how silly you might think they are. Hope you can take someone with you, morale support always calms any nerves, give yourself something nice to look forward to after your appoinment even if its only coffee and cake or new shoes!!
Yes, its a good idea to write your thoughts down, speak to friends, family you will be suprised who may have had similar worries, I did when I found a lump (benign).
There are so many breast problems it could be so please don’t think of the worst, big ((HUG)) to you x
let us all know how you get on and please try not to worry x
Some of the tests may be a bit uncomfortable but none really hurt. The mammo may ‘nip’ a bit but only momentarily.A fine needle aspiration doesnt hurt at all nor does an ultrasound.A core biopsy would be sore but they give you a local anaesthetic and you hardly feel it.Everyone is lovely at breast clinics, gentle and professional. You will get all the help and guidance you need.Good Luckx
Good luck from someone who was in your position at the begining of july, now have finished treatment (WLE and radiotherapy) so can now get on with my Life!
Thank you for all your comments back. I’m just hoping that i hear quickly its the waiting and not knowing that is frustrating to me…but thank your for all your kind words and help will let you know how i go xx
Hi i am in the same position i have my first appointment on Thursday i am 28, very young like you. i have discharge out of one nipple its not dark but milky and green at times, and like everyone else i have googled it and now i am panicking i,ve about buried myself. and as the appointment gets closer the more the panic is setting in. i am 28 and have two little girls 4 and 6 and my imagination is running wild.i no its sounds silly but i keep telling myself its something and nothing, at the same time i am making arrangements for my kids. and i haven’t had my first appointment yet. I am really very scared and wondered if anyone can tell me what to expect at the breast clinic. Because there is only discharge from one nipple its more suspicious. I am the worlds worst patient and am scared its going to hurt and what the prognosis may be
