Hi,
Am 5 days post axillary clearance supposedly level 1, 2 and 3 but I am not sure about the three. I still have my drain in situ, and it is still producing about 60-70 mls fluid in 24 hours. It still seems very sore and I am struggling with pain killers. Reluctant to take codeine phosphate because of the side effects and paracetomol/Brufen don’t seem to do much. Am a bit fed up tbh just not seeming to improve at the rate I think I should. Trying to do excercises religiously but difficult with drain and tight stiff numb pins and needles arm! I feel like a wimp, thought it would be easier than this.?
Hi Mooney,
Sorry you are having a difficult time. I had an axillary clearance as well but luckily no problem with the drain apart from the awkwardness of carrying it about. Have you contacted your BCN or G.P? They should be able to reassure you and prescribe some suitable pain killers. I was given Naproxen on discharge from hospital, but found they caused indigestion, but they may suit you better. Regarding the exercises - I think you should only do gentle movements for now. I know it’s frustrating because you want to get over this hurdle and it can make you feel impatient! I think you should concentrate on resting and trying to relax as much as you can - easier said than done I know. I hope you get some relief soon. Take care xx Lily P.S. You’re not a wimp!!
Mooney it will take a good while for your arm to start feeling better.my surgery was four weeks tomorrow and it’s now beginning to get looser and easier to move but still getting some pain and not full mobility.I’m an impatient person! It will get better x
