Axillary seroma 4 weeks!

Hi,

i had WLE and axillary LN clearance on Feb 17th.  I had a drain for 6 days. Since it has been removed I developed a seroma in my armpit. It’s the size of a grapefruit and needs draining every 3 days. Usually 350ml!

i was just wondering if anyone else has had this and how it finally resolved.  The nurses seem to think it will eventually resolve on its own but theses no sign of improvement yet!

thanks,

cath

Hi Cath

I’m sorry to hear about your seroma. Many of our Someone Like Me volunteers needed draining after their WLE/axillary clearance. If you’d like to chat to someone about it, do feel free to let us know here and we can arrange a volunteer phone call for you to talk it through.

Best wishes

Hi, i had lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy. They took 3 nodes as they were large but came back clear. I had alot of leakage from my node scar and 6 days after surgery i had a sermona under my arm. i also had a smaller on on breast 2 x 3 cm.  The  one under my arm was 6cm deep and 2 1/2 cm wide. Yes over time your body does absorb the fluid. It takes time.  I’m 11 months post surgerymy breast one is still the same sive - i have it drained every 6-7 weeks because of infection. The one under my arm has shrunk to 3x1 cm. Everyone is different and your my heal quicker. I wish you all the best xoxo
