Babies after triple positive breast cancer

Just wondeirng if any one has any stories of having children after triple positive breast cancer, i am so lucky to have my little girl and i was hoping to start trying for another but as of october that has been put on hold for now.

My oncologist says at least 2/3 years with no babies, which is absolutely fine i have to get through all this treatment and surgery and most importantly get nyself better.

But just wondeirng if anyone has any stoires of having children after all this ? I know its possible to take a break on the hormonal therapies then continue them

Thanks

Hi @shannon27,

I’m really sorry that you haven’t had any responses yet on your post - hopefully my reply will boost it and someone will see who can share their experience with you.

We have this information about planning pregnancy on our website here Planning pregnancy after breast cancer treatment | Breast Cancer Now

I would also recommend using the search function in the top right corner to find posts relating to triple positive breast cancer and fertility.

If you’d like to talk this through, or if you have any other questions or just need support, you can reach our nurses on our free helpline 0808 800 6000.

We’re sending you all the best, and I hope you get some answers and responses soon.

Thank yoh alice for boosting it 🩷

Hello, sorry you have not had any replies. I was on the IVF programme when I was diagnosed triple positive BC. I was devastated and did a lot of research at the time, some years ago. We were advised to wait at least 5 years. I have heard of women who have a break from medication to try for a baby. The risks can not be ignored though. Pregnancy floods your body with oestrogen, the hormone that fuels the growth of our cancer. For me the risks were too scary and too big. I never pursued a pregnancy. I am sorry not to be more encouraging, as I really do understand the desire to have children. I’m sure others will reply with their experiences too.

I don’t have a personal story/experience as I haven’t tried to have children yet myself but I found good information on this topic here: Pregnancy After Treatment for Early Stage Breast Cancer
My oncologist advised waiting atleast 2 years. In this recent study (spoken about in the article above) they found that women who took a break from tamoxifen to have a child, did not have a greater risk of recurrence. The caveats to this study are explained in the article above aswell. I am sure there are many positive stories of people having a child after triple positive, I hope they post soon :)!

Thank you for your responses, yes its a hard choice. I have lovely little 5 year old girl and was hoping this year we would have another but bc had other plans. I have heard of people having children after triple positive breast cancer and have seen that there is no indication that to fall pregnant it increases your chances of recurrence obviously its better to finsih treatment but i will be waiting to see what my oncologist says she said 2 to 3 years i know i will be on a hormone blocker for many more years after that, thank you for your messages and i hope there are more stories to come 🩷
