Back to "normality" nearly a year on :)

I just thought I would share my good news with everyone. After being off work since 25th Feb 2013, I am returning on Monday 13th Jan!!! I was diagnosed with breast cancer 7th March 2013, had WLE and SNB, chemo and rads. I am now having Herceptin until Oct/Nov and also take Tamoxifen. For all of you going through diagnosis/treatment at the moment, be reassured that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t get me wrong-I am nervous about returning and I know that “normality” will always be different to what it was prior to diagnosis but with the support of others around me I can’t wait to go back to the job that I love. Good luck everyone and remember-the whole of the breast cancer journey is doable

Hi Mac,

I’m glad you are beginning to return to ‘normal’ and wish you well on your return to work on Monday. Some of the February Valentines are in the same position. I am thankfully retired so don’t have that to think about. I was dx November 2012. The rest is all over these forums in various threads, culminating in the February Valentines chemo thread and a few posts in the Hormone treatment thread. So anyone just starting out, try reading a few of the posts from ladies a little further on from where you are now to see how they coped. Good luck for a new future.

Congratulations, hope the work return is OK - be kind to yourself,

Thank you Poemsgalore and Moorcow. I returned to work yesterday and really enjoyed it. After a few hours it felt like I had hardly been away. My “work family” and Manager have been really suppotive and I have a very structured return to work programme in place-was very tired last night though which is to be expected. Good luck and best wishes to everyone xxx

Getting back to work helped me to get back to as near normal as I could.   I was diagnosed in Feb 2013 had WLE, chemotherapy, radiation and still on Herceptin.  Hoping to finish in Agusut.  I was initially very scared of the future and to be honest still am.  However I have met ladies who have been on Herceptin plus ten years and they are doing very well.  Yes they have to go every three weeks to hospital but in the scheme of things its not that troublesome.  I went back to work in September last year before my chemo had finished and worked through my radiation.  My work were fantastic and gave me all the support I needed and still do.

Emotionally I am still fragile however meeting long term survivors of Her2 BC has made the journey a bit better.  Good luck at work.
