Hi All
Had Masectomy and some nodes removed on Thurs 6th. Oct. and came home on Wed 12th. Saw Consultant today, had to have some fluid removed and was told 13 out of the 17 nodes removed had cancer involvement though the Breast was clear after Chemo. Have now got to have another op (3rd.) and another week in Hospital. They could have done it end of next week but as the following week is half term and the Kennels are full I have put it off till the 8th. Nov. I am devastated that my dogs will have to go back to the Kennels though they seemed quite okay there, still I wish I had had all the nodes removed when I had the M.
All best wishes to everyone.
You did the right things getting the nodes sampled first. Lots of people on here have them all out and then find they are all clear, then some go on to get Lymph odema.
I had a sample taken as I am an artist and was so worried about losing full function in my arm. I too then had to have another op but touch wood, no lymph odema.
I had all my nodes taken out they were all clear, now I cant use that arm for blood tests etc it is a pain, i wish in hindsite I had been given that option…
I am sorry to hear you have to go back into hospital. I too wished that I had had a total clearance in the first place, but as Pam and Irene said it is always best to avoid the risk of Lymphedema.
Do I pick up you are more worried about your dogs than you are your own well-being? This is not a telling off I know what being a ‘doggy person’ is like. Please remember that your dogs will have experienced the kennels before and they know you will be back for them. They will be fine, you obviously trust the kennel owners enough to leave them.
Hi Val, i understand the doggie thing, is it not poss to have someone live in your house to look after them instead. Might stop you worrying so much about them if you know they are in theior own home.
I think that’s a great idea of pinneapple’s. There are house sitting agencies but I am not sure how expensive they are. Do you have a teenage relation still living with their parent? I bet they would love a bit of a taste of freedom. My son has done house sitting for his aunt, mind you I knew he wouldn’t throw parties and they didn’t have dogs.
I dont have any relatives around so cant ask anyone. The only pet sitting person I know just calls in four times a day which is not really enough. The dogs seemed fine at the kennels, and when the couple brought them home, though they were delighted to be back they were all over the couple so obviously liked them and this time they will know what to expect and that they will be coming home.
Yesterday evening I suddenly felt sick, headache and started shivering with cold. Took my temp and it was 38, went to bed with paracetomols and it is nearly back to normal. Was supposed to go to Dentists this morning as broke a filling on Tues but have postponed to next Thurs. The Surgeon took off some fluid on Wed. so wondering if I got a slight infection. Hospital just rang they want me to go to Hospital for a presurgery exam Monday morning, not a lot of warning as H is 30 miles away and I dont have access to transport, I didn’t have this before my masectomy or lumpectomy.
Hi Val, i had 9 lymph nodes removed and luckily they were all clear, but i do have a lot of trouble with my armpit and numbness down the whole back of the arm, but i would have it done again if i had to, when is your next op? they normally give you up to a month before you need another pre-op, maybe they could fit you in nearer to your op date when you feel more able to travel
Hi Alison
I could have had next op. on 26th. Oct having had Masectomy on the 6th. Oct. but as it is half term the next week and kennels are full have agreed on 8th. Nov. Today I look as if I have a new breast, guess fluid has built up again.
Hopefully they will drain it on Monday.
Val
