bad scar tissue
bad scar tissue I went to-day for my 6th chemo I was a bit worried this morning about a few little lumps on my masectomy scar so after my chemo I went in to see my breast care nurse. So she had a look and said I had very bad scar tissue. I have read that a lot of people on here have been pleased with the scar but mine is terrible can anyone tell me what scar tissue is I didnt ask the breast care nurse as she was very busy with a few patients who had just been diagnosed so I thought my seemed trivial at the moment to theres. So has anyone else got the same problem I would love to hear and what do you do. I am not having breast reconstruction as I am 48 and too frightened If I was in my thirties I might think about it but not now . loVE lINDAX
My scar is quite thick and ugly too I am not having a reconstruction as I feel I have had enough. The skin around scar is like orange peel in places and a big lump of fat at the end of scar near under arm. Really gross. Seen pictures. When I questio ned the look of it the nurse said. It’s jushow you are! Oh well I won’t be going topless, but then I never did! love Eileen
Hiya Linda. Like you I had my mastectomy in Jan. and due to having radiotherapy on the same breast 11 yrs ago, mine healed very slowly and has ultimately become a right mess with lumps, craters, wobbly bits etc. I have been told they can do a recon later if I want to go that route - at present I’m not bothered but sure one year on I’m going to want my boob back. It has also been mentioned to have the scar neatened if I decide against. I’m not frightened by having a recon, not really fazed by anything after all this, just fed up with needles, hospitals etc. Like you I’m having 8 chemos and just had No. 3 - it might be an idea to arrange to have a chat with the breast surgeon, he/she might be more helpful than your BC nurse. Good luck. Cheers Anne
Hi Linbob,
I has a masectomy last October and have been left with “dog ears” in the middle of my chest and a large soft lump at the other end of my scar.
I saw my surgical consultant last week and he told me he could remove the middle bit under a local, but not yet; usually a year after the masectomy. I read somewhere that these form as the surgeon does not like turning the patient on their side when doing a maseectomy and so can only stitch what is available at the time. He said the underarm was fluid and this may still go away. We will wait and see.
Take care & best wishes
Jan
