There have been a couple of meet-ups that involve eating and drinking as a background to meeting, but that can get expensive particularly when the steroid munchies hit. So I am proposing having a barbie in my garden at the end of July, Friday 29th, in Guildford, from about 12-ish.
I’m pretty close to the train station for those coming by train (happy to pop down and pick people up) and there’s plenty of free parking available in my little street. If it rains I have a gazebo, and for getting scoff to munch and slosh to slurp there’s a Tesco pretty close by.
Anyone interested? If so, please stick your name down. Eatings and drinkings can be sorted out closer to the time, but it’ll definitely be cheaper than going out to eat.
Well I live in Sussex, so I guess I’m not on the guest list. However, I do go to the lovely Bluebells Cancer Support Group at The Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary in Shere, so could I be regarded as a Guildford person by association? I’m not a big eater, just one sausage would do, although my husband tends to eat everything in sight.

I live in kent, and would like to come, but it will depend on if anyone else is coming from my way so we can travel together on the train. (I don’t drive) but I would love to come.
The invite is for whoever wants to come along, no restrictions based on hairiness, grade, stage, location, gender, persuasion or colour of nail varnish. As long as I have a reasonable idea of who’s likely to come along that’ll be enough, I can guarantee it’ll be very informal (those who have had the dubious pleasure of meeting me already will know I’m not yer formal kind of person) and my garden is no RHS Wisley by even the stretchiest stretch of the imagination (my lawnmower’s been broken for the last 18 months, says it all really) so if you’re after posh, you might not be terribly comfy. But of course if anyone wishes to dress up like Ladies’ Day at Ascot and feels relaxed in high heels and feather hats then I’m not going to stop you! Anything goes, really, as long as it won’t frighten the cat.
For scoff I’ll have the barbie on the go, could probably stretch to doing a vat of veg soup and baked spuds if people don’t want to do meat or processed things and can probably provide some salads and stuff, but if you want to eat best fillet steak I think it’ll have to be BYO (bring yer own) and as I said there’s a Tesco just round the corner so if push comes to shove, someone can go out and do a bit of shopping! My head’s not on at the mo so I haven’t thought too much about all the details, let’s wait and see who wants to come and then take it from there.

I also have a big trampoline which is lovely for lying on, so if anyone things they’re not going to be able to standing or sitting, lying down’s already catered for (take note, CherryOrchard, and my sofa is where I’ve lived post FEC so you’re very welcome to keel over on that too if you feel the need.) And for those who are worried about other health stuff, I’m very close to the Royal Surrey so we even have close proximity to emergency services!
Well, actually I am more used to being invited to exclusive events, where only a select few get in… (lmao… AS IF), but I’m happy to break the habit of a lifetime and follow my nose from Salisbury to Guildford! Ties in nicely with the beginning of the school hols for me, so first day off work - what a way to spend it!!! Haven’t actually cleared it with OH or kids yet, but they are bound to do as they’re told if I wave the cancer card. Hasn’t failed me yet.
