Bathing after lumpectomy

Hi, I had a Lumpectomy 2 weeks ago and have the dressings removed today. I have been told I can now shower & bathe, can anyone recommend what they used in the bath or shower, I’ve just been told to avoid anything perfumed. Any advice would be good. Thank you all

Hi I had a lumpectomy in June last year and used Sanex Zero% as it’s non allergen, fragrance free and for sensitive skin and it was great. Often on special offer. Hope this helps you.

Ps Advice was to avoid bathing stuff containing Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.

Thank you for your reply, I will look for some tomorrow

Hi Chillout365
Bless you I hope you’re doing well after surgery. I was advised not to bath for a few weeks, but it was ok to shower and, as others have said, to use non perfumed products.
I’m using Aveeno non perfumed moisture rich range and it is definitely working for me. I use the shower gel and moisturiser which do suit my skin. I purchased products on a 3 for 2 offer from Tesco. I stocked up as I’m told by my BCN I will need to moisturise lots, up to and throughout Radiotherapy treatment. Whatever you decide I wish you all the best. Xx

Hi, thank you for your reply, hope you are doing well too. I will look at the Aveeno range as I already use their dermexa range.
Do you know when you will be starting radiotherapy? I still have 2 weeks to wait for my post op results although they have already said I will need to have radiotherapy. The past six weeks have been such an emotional rollercoaster I still quite believe where I’m at. Sending hugs :hugs::hugs:

Hi Chillout365
My results were different than expected as my DCIS went from 22mm to 55mm plus 2 small micro invasive tumours and my bcn said I need a full 3 months healing time before radiotherapy. So I’m told it will be December or January time before I start radiotherapy and the oncologist will decide if it’s 5 or 15 sessions…. Yes it’s another waiting game…. We’re getting so good at it ha ha
I know exactly what you mean about the speed of things and sometimes I feel quite overwhelmed by it all but …. I’m so grateful to the NHS for spotting it and getting the cancers out, I know I’m in excellent hands!! Good luck with your pathway too, and remember to take care of you along the way xx

Hi hun,

As others have said non perfumed is recommended. I also went with sanex but there’s lots of others out there too l.

You’ve achieved another big milestone, be proud of yourself and enjoy your shower. Baby steps and you’ll get there - promise.

I had my surgery in March this year and the cancer diagnosis only actually hit me once they removed the dressings. Every day has got that bit easier and so be gentle with yourself.

Big hugs.
Xx

Hi chillout365

I used & still am, Baby shower gel & shampoo, was reccomended it by my Macmillan nurse. I just brought Sainsbury’s own brand. I also brought a plastic arm covering to stop my picc-line getting wet.
Hope this helps.
