I found a lump in my right breast. Im 26 and have two kids 5 and 9 months. The lump is quite large and hard.
I went straight to the gp who has referred me to a breast clinic for a scan. This has made me nervous although im happy I will get some further investigation.
The thing is I have just stopped breastfeeding two weeks ago. I slowly weaned and cut each feed down very gradually and ive had no issues at all. No soreness or anything.
Ive had mastitis a few times in both boobs whilst.breastfeeding so im quite used to having lumps and pain.
I just assumed this lump was due to me quitting breastfeeding but now im doubting it and its making me nervous.
I havnt googled anything as im naturally very anxious and just dont need to worry myself.
Just dropping on to say Hi really, as I see that nobody has replied to you yet. I don’t actually have experience of your situation, as firstly I’m a lot older (48) and can’t relate to either mastitis or breast feeding issues. However, I wanted to say that you have done absolutely the right thing in immediately getting checked, and the scan will hopefully put your mind at rest. At your age, and in your ‘hormonal’ position, the odds (statisitcally speaking) are stacked hugely in your favour. Of course bc can occur in your age group, but it is much rarer than for those of us who are 47 years old plus. They also say that 80 percent of referrals to the clinic results in finding a benign condition, at your age I also had a scan for a large hardened area that showed hormonal changes in breast tissue. I know this is going to be really hard, but avoiding google is ABSOLUTELY the right thing to do, very sensible. As everyone will say, googling will not give you an answer. Only the scan (and if necessary a biopsy) will give you the answer you are waiting for. On the internet you will find horror stories that match your symptoms, or you will find benign conditions that match your symptoms, and you will sway between the two mentally, and be none the wiser. It will increase your anxiety and stress reading up on google. I know this, because I did it lol, mind I wasnt on this forum then, so there was nobody to rap my knuckles.
When is your referral, is it quite soon or are you still awaiting an appointment?
