Hi all this is the first time I have posted on here and I am really at a dead end. I am 39 and was diagnosed one year ago with ER+ PR+ and HER2+ breast cancer. I am now on zolodex for the for fore seeable future and go every four weeks. My oncologist suggest and referred my to get my ovaries removed. The gynogologist refused point blank to remove my ovaries using the reason that she has been sued by a lady in my position. I explained that keeping my ovaries causes me extreme fear and anxiety as does receiving zolodex every 4 weeks and it a constant reminder of the last year. Has anyone else been declined this operation or does anyone know what I can do? My mental health is really taking a hit as I was so focused and feel let down. Today I have an appointment to discuss recon and I am now prettified that that will be refused. Can I add the gynogologist was really cold and didn’t show any understanding and it was my first appointment I attended on my own and never again ?
hi Vicky,
Welcome to the forum, although I’m sure you’d rather not be here & sorry to hear you are going through this.
That really does sound a bit extreme, as any refusal should be based on clinical need not because of previous legal action, your case has nothing to do with it.
It maybe worth asking for a second opinion as clearly this may not be on your clinical interests.
Obviously, you will talk about this with your team & it maybe worth giving the helpline here a ring to talk it through, number at the top of this page.
Let is know how you get on & best wishes with it

Just to add, it maybe worth considering a complaint about this when you feel able. xx
Thanks for the quick response and I agree with you it seems very unfair and unprofessional. I am waiting for a response from my oncologist and my Dr has re referred my but I just feel that I shouldn’t have to be fighting this. i am so uptight about going to see consultant about recon today after Friday’s experience. I used to be so confident where has that gone?
hi Vicky,
It sounds like you were unlucky, the recon appointment should be fine, try to put this one off negative experience aside. If this gynaecologist behaves like this, you would be better off with someone else anyway.
When going through this, you certainly dont need it & that confidence will bounce back.

Ask for a second opinion that’s ridiculous, I would be fuming .It is a perfectly reasonable well thought out decision .
Definitely ask for a second opinion! Maybe the oncologist could smooth your path by arranging an appointment with a consultant who might be a bit more sympathetic towards your concerns.
