Hello @harris1,

Thank you for posting. It is quite normal to feel out of your depth and knocked for six when dealing with a diagnosis of breast cancer and facing treatment such as chemotherapy.

Gathering information is a good way of helping you feel informed and less overwhelmed but as you have found it can feel hard to know where to look.

As you are starting chemotherapy soon, we have a booklet all about chemotherapy which might be a good place to begin. All of our booklets are free to order or download, and you can look at the full list of what is available.

You have already discovered our forums but you might not be aware that we have a monthly thread for those starting chemotherapy. Here is the one for anyone starting chemotherapy in October and there will be another one for November if that is when you are starting treatment.

We know that the emotional impact of breast cancer can be tough for many women and we have some information on coping with emotion on our website. We also have an upcoming webinar on the emotional impact of breast cancer which you might like to register for. You can also register for any of our other webinars which interest you.

The Breast Cancer Support organisation Future Dreams have lots of helpful information on their website and they also run online events and workshops. Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK are also reliable places to go for information.

If talking to someone who has been through similar would be helpful to you, you might want to look at our Someone Like Me service. They can match you with a trained volunteer who’s had a similar experience to you.

If you would like to talk any of this through or have any further questions, do call our helpline. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to additional support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks.

Our number is 0808 800 6000. If you have hearing or speech difficulties dial 18001 followed by our number and the call will go through Relay UK. Our helpline has access to telephone interpreters if language translation is required.

If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. Please complete this form ticking the box agreeing to a call back.

Our usual opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturdays.

We are closed on English bank holidays.

Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

Best wishes,

Angela
