I had really severe joint pain during chemo (dosetaxil) and needed oramorph to help me through. I have also been left with peripheral neuropathy in hands and feet. My chemo finished in April 12, mastectomy and aux clearance in may12, radiotherapy in aug 12. I attend pain clinic and I am on gabapentin, co-drydamol and diclofenac. Have tried tramadol too. Although they have told me it has all been caused by treatment I am now worried it could be bone mets. I got a bone scan before the start of treatment, but nothing since. Can anyone tell me how they found out they had bone mets. I feel reluctant to speak to the doctor because he will think I am neurotic and paranoid.

Hi Annie, I do have bone mets which were found when I had really bad pain in my hip infact it was so bad I could hardly breathe. I had been to the gp twice who said it was groin strain. I took myself to a&e and an xray came back with ‘greying’ then I had bone scans etc and was referred to the Marsden. Here I was diagnosed with bc + bone mets.
During my chemo I ached everywhere, joints, arms, back etc. and took meds to help ease it. Those aches/pains do not happen now although I do have other aches associated with my letrozole. I have had 3 bone scans and ct scans every 3 months or so. If I were you Id ask for a scan, its best to get things checked out. Dont worry about what you onc thinks its your body. I know chemo can affect your body in many ways and it is likely your onc is correct. Take care

Hi Annie
I really feel for you as possibly the worst physical part of this whole bc thing has been my bad back.
I have terrible back and hip pain and have had since the start of chemo (which finished in March). I had a CT scan in January and thankfully that came back ok. But my back is still bad. I take amiltrypoline at night which is great and the only thing that has actually relieved it.
I did suffer from a bad back (broke my sacrum and pelvis in 2000) and genrally dont have a great back (big boobs dont help!) and just think that hte chemo has gone for my weak spot.
I think you should ask for a scan for peace of mind…
Good luck

Thanks for your support. I am going to phone the breast care nurse as I was discharged from onc after my radiotherapy in aug 12. I am not sure when I have to see the surgeon for my checkup either. Living with the pain is hard, but the fear is worse. My left hip sometimes give way with a sharp pain. I just want to get back to normal and forget I ever had cancer, but it is always there praying on my mindONI am probably just neurotic and paranoid, but I am still going to phone the nurse.
