being referred to breast clinic

Hey,
I don’t normally check often for lumps and any that I had felt were minuscule and went within days but this time it’s different…
I found a lump around a week before Halloween it was about the size of the tip of my little finger, it hadn’t gone within a week so I went to my GP…
The doc said to wait until after my next cycle and go back to see her if it was still there. Well my cycle doesn’t play ball when I’m stressed and i have a lot going on at the moment…so I didn’t have another one until the beginning of December. When my period came I checked and the lump was still there, when it ended I checked… Still there… And then a week later it was still there. So I went to the GP yesterday but had to see a different doc as I found it difficult to get an appointment that didn’t clash with school pick up.
The doc checked the lump and as she checked the rest of the breast she noticed another lump. She told me to get dressed and said she was referring me to the breast clinic. The first doc was very comforting and said it was probably nothing to worry about yet this one barely said a thing and began writing in my notes before I’d got my top back on. She said I should hear within a week or so but it might be delayed what with Christmas and what not.
I know most lumps turn out not to be cancer, but I can’t help thinking even with my age I can’t help but be worried about the referral and having tests and waiting for results. A slim chance is still a chance. I keep checking hoping it will go before the referral comes through but it’s been there for 7/8 weeks if not longer because I don’t check daily or even weekly I just check every now and again.
I might just be being paranoid but it’s a worry…

Hi Gunner

you are in the worst place at the moment, and worrying yourself sick.

  1. 90% of lumps are NOT cancer - this website has loads of info in the publications section that explain other stuff
  2. your GP has referred you NOT because she ‘knows’ it is BC but because there’s a 10% chance it MIGHT be and it needs to be ruled out
  3. If it is BC - and yes it may take a bit to get you appt this time of year - you will get superb information, treatment and aftercare, and when/if that happens you will know what you are facing and how to deal with it - honest!!
  4. waiting a few weeks will not make any difference, it won’t grow huge overnight or spread all over the place
  5. Use only this website and McMillan - don’t read any of the mad lunatic stuff you see on the cranky sites cos they are daft

much love, and all the very best
