Benefits of Curcumin (turmeric)

Hi ladies. Has anyone got any advice/thoughts on the benefits of taking curcumin?
I’ve been reading quite a bit on it over recent weeks and decided to buy a bottle of turmeric capsules to give it a try.
Should check with Onc first on Wed when I go for my CT scan results though I think?

Hi,bev,I put it in everything I cook and … Well it did nothing for me that’s all I’m saying. But anything is worth a try.

Yes Helen I’m not sure if it’ll make a difference…in fact I’m always a bit sceptical about things like this but I’ll try anything with this dx now ?

Have a look at this belinda…there are also a few articles on other sites. I just googled “benefits of using curcumin for metastatic breast cancer”

Thank you Bev and Mel, will have a read.

Thanks mel. …thats really interesting. I use turmeric quite a lot because I make my own curries from scratch and it involves frying the spices first. But as you say, the capsules are probably not concentrated enough. I’ll use them now I’ve bought them and keep quietly optimistic!
Love and hugz…bev x

Thanks geordiex. Will have a look at that too xxx

Thank you from me too geordiex. X

Onc has just told me not to take it…will interfere with the way my chemo works :frowning:

We need to be so careful with all these suppliments.

I suppose I can always break open all the capsules and put into a spice jar lol!!

I have been takin curcumin x4000 for a year now £27 for 160 along side tamoxifen and ibondronic acid I did ask my onc and he said it would be ok I am stable at min but which is making me stable I do not know but dare not stop taking curcumin now

Just to add to the mix - turmeric is often fed to horses to help with arthritis, supposed to be really effective!! Not that I’m suggesting any of us are horse-like, I have 2 lovely horses though, they keep me sane along with 2 dogs.

Thanks ladies…i still have my 2 tubs unopened! Onc said he wouldnt advise taking it at the same time as chemo as it could interfere with the way it works. He said would be ok when not on chemo…but im going to be on it indefinitely!
Ah well…?

There seems to be some evidence that curcumin reduces the effectiveness of tamoxifen. I’ll try and find a link.

Thought as the boards are quiet at the moment I would bring this thread back up and see if any ladies have had any success with it.

I was reading The Daily Mail online earlier  and thought it would be interesting to get your takes on it as a  supplement. I am always nervous about these things and only  stick to cod liver oil and vitamin C daily.

I could ask my Oncologist at the end of the month but no doubt she would be very wary about saying its good or bad .

I have posted to Complimentary Therapies too but I think the ladies with the most knowledge will be here!

Hiya sher that sounds a good idea …let me know how u get on.
All these things get high profile media coverage but not followed up …suppose its all down to financing.

Hi my oncologist let me take turmeric when I was on capecitabine…but now iv got liver Mets and on docetaxol she wont…so prob best to speak to oncologist to see if it’s ok for you…xsharon

Yes I liked taking turmeric.but I think she said it wont go with this chemo.i will probably start taking it again after chemo…xx my friend used black root on her skin cancer for two months and it came out …lots of natural therapies can be helpful.her oncologist dismissed her but said she could do it…xxsharon

I have just read that article and its very interesting. I think if there is complimentary things to help fight this …we must go for it.
As they say " every little helps" .
I just wish there was more funding to get more research done on these things …as maybe we could avoid the savages of chemo.
