Bernie Nolan was interviewed on GMTV this morning. You can watch the interview on their website. She was talking mainly about her hair loss and she was showing her shaved head. I thought she looked good in the cirumstances and was pleased that she was showcasing what many of us are going through, and also encouraging women to go for their mammograms asap rather than wait. There has been a lot of debate about celebrity “diagnosis”, press reporting and the public perception of the effects of bc and its treatment, but Bernie Nolan seems to be genuinley trying to do her best to use her diagnosis to help people like all of us, and all the ladies who sadly will be next in line to deal with bc. I thought people may be interested in watching the clip, hence this post.
Good that she was being upfront about her cancer but why did she feel the need to show her bald head? Really can’t see how that is supposed to encourage anyone to go forscreening- she looked even worse than I did when I was bald!
I thought she was great. I really liked the emphasis she placed on screening and how honest she was. I liked the fact she didn’t cover her head but that might just be because I don’t cover mine (other than a hat when I’m out in the sun). I think it’s just an individual choice and I didn’t think she looked bad. Maybe that’s just me though as I’m used to inflicting my bald head on people. No one seems to care though and I feel more comfortable that way.
I didn’t see her on TV, but I saw the piece in the NOTW on Sunday. I didn’t like the photo of her feigning a shocked scream at being bald to be honest, it kind of trivialised things a bit I felt. Just my opinion of course, other ladies may have thought it was great.
