Best shavers?

This is a small thing in the scheme of things but it would be great to have some advice. I always used ordinary throw away razors for my underarms, but after having lymph nodes removed was told I had to use a battery or electric shaver. I did purchase one but am finding it pretty rubbish (and it wasn’t cheap!). I am left with stubble and a dark shadow - not a great summer look! I don’t want to have to work my way through the whole range of shavers on offer to find a good one! Does anyone have a succesfull product you would recommend?

Hi Ann_R
Nothing is small or trivial!

I have been told the same, or I can use creams which I do. I find these get to the skin closer and actually last longer than a shave!
No stubble or dark shadows!

Take care

Hi Ann_R

As Tonit 3 says this is not too small or too trivial. it is now a little over two years since my rads, and I can recall asking the same question, and finding a longish thread on here that recommended all sorts of shavers. Unfortunately because the ‘search’ facility never quite got sorted when the forum was relaunched last time, I had to use the evil google monster to try to find it, and failed. However, I do recall that the one most pepole recommended was the philips ladyshave wet and dry , which I bought and used faithfully for a long time; it was ‘OK’ but not as good as a wet shave. Two years on, I have to confess I have reverted to careful wet shaving and have not suffered any nicks or cuts to the affected armpit - not advocating that, but it has proved to be OK for me. I can’t use depliatory creams cos my skin is (and always was) too sensitive, but that would give you a good result.

I vaguely recall someone mentioning a mni-shaver but I can’t find that thread/post, but someone else may recall it.

Hope you get some good ideas and are able to enjoy summer without fear of the dreaded five o’clock shadow!

Hi rev cat , just quick question I had wle and ANC 18th June, very numb in armpit if I did shave I’d definetly cut myself at moment. Does it stay numb or improve? How’s your arm? I’ve got sunburn feeling constantly, hurts If clothes touch skin. Doing all exercises got good range of movement but all feels strange. Thanks x

Hi Lols,
Firstly, what you are describing is totally normal, and exactly how my arm felt after mx, LD recon and ANC in Feb 2011. My upper arm skin is still mostly numb two years on, but the sunburn sensation is a very old memory - hopefully within a few weeks you will find that goes away. Apparently it is caused by the nerves getting confused and sending the wrong message to our brains - poor things have been well scrambled by the surgery and need time to untangle themselves .

I still do some of the exercises every day - it is meant to avoid my LD scar from tightening up - and was told they are ‘for life’. I have near perfect movement, and have had since about six weeks post surgery, but sometimes, especially if it is cold or damp, it feels a bit tight or achey… never thoguht I’d have a weather forecasting boob, back and arm but I do! I was religiously careful to avoid lymphoedema for the first year or so, and still am quite cautious, but I reverted to wet shaving and then checking my armpit in the mirror! As I say, not advocating this as it’s contra advice, but so far I seem to have got away with it.
Hope that helps a little bit, and that you continue to make good progress.

Thankyou, currently having panic attack, waiting for bcc n to phone with ct dates and date for redoing wle, she promised she would today but don’t think she will now. Told grade 3 on Monday after all biopsy results in and 4/25 lymph involved, now nothing’s happening and I’m imagining it everywhere. Going crazy to be honest and pain in arm doesn’t let you forget for one minute, but nice to hear from people who have been there and are well, thank you for advice x

Lols will PM you rather than side track this thread xx

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for the advice - not sure I have the nerve to do a wet shave - maybe a year or two down the road like yourself!
I never thought about cream - DOH! I am sure they removed a few brain cells when I was in theatre!
Regards,
Ann

Ann, I bought the cheapest at Argos, Philips white/pink and it’s been fine now for little over a year.
Lols, you are going to make it through this…breathe - you are in my thoughts and prayers.

thankyou lilac blue, I chased up 2nd wle ans scan myself this morning. 15 th and 19 th July and then results 2 weeks later so sick of waiting, trying to breathe, your all very kind, thanks again x

I used to shave but since my op have used hair removal cream and find that much better…tho it stinks lol

Is anyone else having trouble with hair removal in the armpit area ? I know this is so minor compared to everything else. I had SNB and WLE on 17th June, now waiting for Mx and reconstruction. I was using a wet razor, until I realised I wasn’t supposed to !! So I’ve tried cream, even the sensitive skin one, which facts badly and gives me pain and a rash. Now I’m thinking about an electric shaver, but not sure which oone thanks for any advice
