I expect everyone is different but I wondered what the school of thought is on whether there is an optimum time of day to take Letrozole? The leaflet inside the box gives no clue and I forgot to ask my oncologist. I have just finished radiotherapy and don’t feel I can put off starting the hormone therapy any longer and plan to start taking them on Monday. Have others changed the time as a result of their experiences whilst taking them or been recommended a best time of day?
Thanks!
Hi LadyM
I’m on Anastrozole, but in view of the list of potential side effects I decided to take mine just before bed on the grounds that if I felt nausia, headache etc I’d be asleep while it was going on and any effects would wear off as the tablet became less strong during the next day. This has worked really well for me and I haven’t experienced the dreaded SEs. They are by my bed so whether I go to bed at 10 pm or 1 a.m. that’s when I take the tablet. My bc nurse said it didn’t make any difference when you took it so long as it was more or less the same time each day.
Congratulations on finishing the rads. I too began taking my hormone tablet after rads finished - felt I didn’t want everything going on at once! You’re on the home stretch now! xx
No one mentioned anything to me about the best time to take them, just that it’s important to take it at more or less the same time every day. In the morning with breakfast works for me so I don’t ever forget. I keep the tablets in the cupboard with the tea and coffee. Some people prefer last thing at night because they find it helps with minimizing any side effects. People do change as they find what suits them. If you look back over old posts here there are some about switching from morning to bedtime.
Good advice but I would add …it’s better to take them with food …I take mine with my porridge in morning …I have found in the past on an empty tummy …I sometimes feel a bit sick or sweaty …
Thanks everyone for your replies. Still not decided what time but definitely starting on Monday.
