Bilateral with ER+/Her2+

Mixed day today…got results from gene testing which were negative (phew!) so relieved that my daughter hasn’t inherited any dodgy genes.  So was on a bit of a high for a while…but then I get call from the chemo referral unit booking me in to see oncologist to discuss treatment plan next week.  However I hadn’t heard back about my final Her2 results as my BCN doesn’t work on a Thursday…they did apologise but it was a bit of a shock.

So now it’s going to be chemo first, followed by surgery, then rads/HT…but as my tumors are both relatively small at 10mm (ER+/PR-/Her2+) and 12mm (ER+/PR+/Her2-) hoping lumpectomies still the viable option.

My question really is, is chemo normally done first for Her2+ or is it that they may not have been able to get my surgery date in soon enough?  Guess I’ll know more next Tuesday when I see the oncologist and hoping it’s still the suggested 6 cycles with Herceptin from 4th one…so much to take in at the mo xx

Thank you for any advice you can give xx

Hi CrazyCatLady - sorry you had a shock call today, though glad to hear you got negative gene test result. I’m HER- but when I went through chemo (about 4 years ago) 2 ladies I met on here were HER+ and they were having chemo first followed by surgery and radiotherapy. I also had chemo first, though that’s not really relevant to your question. Yours is a good question and one you should ask your oncologist, but I just wanted to reassure you that it doesn’t seem unusual to have chemo first.

If you haven’t already, do join the monthly chemo thread. You are right, there is a lot to take in, but just take it one day at a time and you will get through and out the other side. If I can help with any questions, please ask.

Sending hugs, Evie xx

I’m am ER+/HER2+ and had chemo prior to my surgery. As far as I’m aware this is standard practise for a HER2+ diagnosis.
