Hi
Have been advised to rub bio oil into my scar once the dressings come off but am not sure what this is, where you get it from and what exactly it does? Any tips?
Also, armpit very tender from op so am just using non-fragranced baby wipes to clean as dressing is still on and don’t want to get wet. Any more ideas about keeping clean & fresh under there?
Many thanks
Gill
Hi Gill
You can buy it in Boots. My daughter used it for stretch marks when she was pregnant and she swore by it. It reckons it is good for scarring too. It isn’t cheap though - about £20 for a reasonably big bottle. Lovely stuff.
Much love

Hi Gill
Another suggestion for scarring is Vitamin E oil which you can get in the body shop. I used it on a scar from having a fibroadenoma removed years ago and it is virtually undetectable now.
I know what you mean about under the arm, mine has cording and as well as feeling unpleasant to the touch , it’s very tender to clean. Baby wipes are good but I have been gritting my teeth and using my unperfumed soap very carefully and drying the area right away. I have some unperfumed crystal Pit Rok deodorant which I spray on my hand and dab in my armpit. It’s very good and I have not been smelling! I’m not sure if I should be putting anything on it but my sweat does smell right now, must be the toxins coming out after finishing chemo…

Hiya, I use bio oil too.Cost 8 pounds from superdrug and you only need to use a little bit it will last for ages .This has been the one that has been recommended to me by my surgeon and a few friends who have used it after sections etc.only used it for 2 weeks so far and it seems to be working.

Another alternative is the Boots Oil of Evening Primrose, which is lighter and considerably cheaper.
Wonder if I will be moderated for mentioning a particular brand which I found really good.

Hi Ladies
If you have a ‘Bodycare’ shop near you, Bio-Oil is so much cheaper there, nearly half the price of Boots!
I must agree, it is fabulous stuff. My WLE scar after just 6 months is hardly visable. Need bilateral mastectomy in Jan, so my Breast care nurse has recommended rubbing it daily into my skin to soften it all up and to make it more supple.
My friend told me that she found Aloe Vera oli very good following her breast surgery but I think I’ll be sticking with the Bio-Oil.

Thanks for all your advice ladies! Am venturing into Norwich tomorrow (first big trip out since mastectomy last Friday!) so will definitely buy some bio oil. This site is just great for tips etc.
Thanks so much
