Bio Oil

Hi. I have read about Bio oil being good after surgery but has anyone used it between having a WLE and a full clearance? I had my WLE on 9th June and am having full clearance on 12th July and wondered if it is safe to use Bio Oil. Would be interested to hear anyon’s views - for or against.

Hi Elaine,
I am sure you will get lots of replies, with different views, l had three ops in three months, and when l asked the bcn about using Bio Oil, she told me not to use anything until it was fully healed!
Good Luck with whatever you decide, and Good Luck with the full clearance on the 12th!

I have used Bio Oil on my WLE and SNB scars after radiotherapy and it really helped. Bio Oil also sponsor the ‘Look Good, Feel Better’ campaign for cancer sufferers.

Having said that, there are lots of other products out there that also do a good job. Bio Oil is quite pricey.

I love bio-oil, but I would say don’t use it till you’re fully healed too.

Bio-oil does a good job on scars that are several years old, so you don’t need to rush into using it until you are sure everything’s nicely healed up.

It’s pricey stuff, but I find a little goes a long way. And there always seems to be a half price offer somewhere, just a question of shopping around.

Good luck for your op!

I also use Bio Oil but only started using it when my scars had healed. Use it carefully as my bedroom carpet looks a mess after the spills/splashes.

Hi,

I was told to keep my scar moisturised all the time and E45 was suggested. To be honest I did not like it, nor the aqueous cream which was the alternative suggestion. I ended up using aloe propolis creme which is anti-bacterial as well as moisturising and I found that to be the best. I did change to bio for a while but preferred the aloe so have gone back to using that.

Hi

Just to add I started to use bio-oil once my scars were all healed.
Its doing great job ! I purchased the bio oil via internet which was much cheaper than in the supermarkets so make sure you check out prices, otherwise can be very expensive.

Good luck

Hi, I was recommended Bio Oil by my surgeon when I went for my op results. I got it on prescription from my GP but don’t know if that’s common.Didn’t use it untill healed though.

Hi
I used Bio Oil on my mastectomy scar but I only used it at night now because I found it stained my bras after daytime application. Currently trying out Rescue oil which I got from Poundland and seems OK.

I used Bio oil to good effect only after healing of scar after three ops! It was recommended by my BCN and found it to be 2/3 of retail price on the Internet at Amazon. I bought the large size but you use so little you could just buy a small bottle for your whole recovery. I’m still using it to try and help my scar lighten after 5 months and it does encourage you to massage the whole site as I had cording after mx.

I use bio oil and would swear by it. Its brilliant on scars also keeps your skin smooth on arms and underarms etc to avoid infections after lymph node clearence. Its a bit sticky but if you rub in and massage it is theraputic too. I wouldn’t use anything else. There are good offers around if you search and it does go a long way so although the initial outlay seems a lot it lasts a long time…xxx

Thanks everyone for your comments. I have now fully healed after op and have purchased my bio oil, so it’s all systems go. Hope it works for me as well as it seems to have worked for most of you… I’ll keep you all posted.

Good luck with any further treatment and best wishes to you all.

Hugs from Elaine
