Biopsy in 2 days

Hi, I found another lump a few weeks ago, I wasn’t worried because this would be my 4th trip to the breast clinic for cysts. Normally go in see the doctor, have the mammograms and ultrasounds jab a needle in and drain the cyst and I’m on my way. Had my appointment last week completely expecting the same this as usual.

Everything went as normal until I went in for the ultrasound and the consultant said she was going to scan my armpit first. This set of the first alarm bell, in the 3 other visits they never scanned there. She then moved down and said there was a cyst that needed draining so I relaxed again until she said that on the mammogram she could see a new area of calcification that wasn’t there a year ago when I last went. She wanted to drain the cyst and repeat the mammogram to see if the calcification was in the cyst and had gone. Went for the repeat mammogram, then she asked for 2 more views, then she looked at the pictures and asked for a magnified view. At this point the alarm bells in my head are screaming.

She then said that the calcification was still there and I needed a stereotactic biopsy which is now in 2 days.

I just feel like I have this impending sense of doom hanging over me and everyday feels like it’s lasting forever this past week. Has anyone had a good outcome after suspicious micro calcifications on 6 different mammogram views including magnified views?

Hi,

I know my mum who had breast cancer in 2018, had calcifications found a couple of years after and had to have a biopsy, but everything turned out to be ok. This has happened twice for her and both times things were ok, despite the recalls. I will keep my fingers crossed for you- the waiting for appointments and results is awful xx

Hi Tigger,

It sounds like you had a bit of a shock expecting your tests to be like previous visits with your cysts. So no wonder you feel anxious.

I was the same as previosly I have had benign core biopsy and sent on my way and this time I was told benign but you need a excisional biopsy as there was changes on the ultrasound images.

The good thing is you are being looked after and they are making sure nothing gets missed

Try to distract yourself at the moment with doing nice things , you will worry so I wont tell you not to do that.

Take care
