Hello. I’m 44. Found a breast lump this morning. Incredibly, managed to get an appointment at a Bupa breast clinic tonight. Upshot is it’s not a cyst, 4cm in size, and ‘suspicious’. They biopsied it and my armpit because lymph nodes were enlarged. I go back for results on Monday and was advised to ‘bring someone with me’. Bugger. Any words of advice? Trying to be brave.
Good morning
So sorry to read your post, we have all been there and now were there for you. Let’s hope you have the best treatment out there for you this is a very anxious time for you I do hope you’ve got a good partner, friend to take with you on Monday also I would suggest you make some notes as there is so much to take in as we all get fog brain at this time.
_At the moment I would suggest very easy for me to say just take one day at a time, try to rest and be kind to yourself _a cup of tea with a good understanding friend, however the people who understand the most are those who have been in the same position fingers crossed for a good outcome going forward.
Please come back, when your ready and let us know how your getting on.
Biggest hugs from me to you Tili
Hello @Tryingtobebrave
I’m so sorry you find yourself here.
In my case I didn’t find a lump I had a recall from my first mammogram, I went along to the appointment thinking it won’t be anything (I had recalls for smears all the time and my friend had had a mammogram recall and it was all fine) so after another mammogram, ultra ultrasound and core biopsy I too was sent on my merry way with an instruction “to bring someone with me for the results” no-one mentioned the “c word” and my mind went into overdrive
Whilst no one has cancer until they are told they have, clearly they are concerned. Most people on this forum will probably tell you the hardest part of their diagnosis and treatment is the waiting and not knowing. The only advice I can give you at this stage is try to distract yourself, try to remind yourself that fears are not facts and whatever it is that you get lost in, whether it’s running, baking, reading, box sets. If you are having trouble sleeping you might like try some meditation or hypnotherapy (I understand there are some really good free ones on YouTube) learning to meditate/practice mindfulness can be really helpful to get you through any treatments you need to have.
If you are really struggling with sleep you can try an over the counter tablet or speak to your doctor.
I’m sure you mind is racing at the moment and unless you know someone who has gone through breast cancer treatment your impression of breast cancer patients is the one portrayed in the media (mine certainly was!) it isn’t! Breast cancer is one of the most common and treatable forms of cancer, and the survival rate is very high there are thousands of women walking around who have had breast cancer at some point in their lives (my husband’s grandmother had it in her 50’s and lived to 96) and the support available to you, here on the BCN forum and IRL through organisations like MacMillan and Maggie’s is wonderful. Please don’t be afraid to ask for help
Keeping my fingers crossed for you for your appointment on Monday
lots of love AM xxx
