Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone can answer my question before I contact my BC nurse.
So I’ve come off Anastrazole as after 2 yrs my hair started to fall out badly!
I started taking Biotin a few weeks ago to help with my regrowth and now today it’s suddenly hit me! Should I not be taking this tablet? Is this a hormone!!?
I feel a bit panicky today with the sudden realisation!!
Is this an ok tablet or not??
Please help!

Hi there,
It’s understandable to feel concerned about any new supplements or medications, especially when dealing with something as serious as breast cancer treatment. Let’s address your concerns one by one.
1. Anastrozole and Hair Loss: Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor used to treat breast cancer by lowering estrogen levels in the body. Hair loss can be a side effect of this medication. It’s good that you’re in touch with your BC nurse about this issue.
2. Biotin Use: Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is a water-soluble vitamin that supports hair, skin, and nail health. It is not a hormone and generally considered safe to take. Biotin supplements are commonly used to help with hair regrowth and are not known to interfere with hormone levels or breast cancer treatments.
3. Should You Be Taking Biotin?: Given that Biotin is not a hormone, it should be safe to take while dealing with hair loss from Anastrozole. However, individual circumstances vary, and it’s always best to consult your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current treatment plan.
Feeling Panicky: It’s completely normal to feel anxious about new supplements and treatments. Reaching out to your BC nurse or healthcare provider will give you the reassurance and guidance you need.
