I was dx 6 1/2 years ago aged 47. Had Tamoxifen (5years) with Zoladex (2 years). Had blood tests to check was post menopausal then changed to Femara after the 5 years on Tamoxifen. Took femara + calcium for 1 year but had digestive problems, I think caused by the calcium in the stomach. Stopped taking femara about 2 months ago and this morning I’ve been bleeding. I had a bleed when I stopped Tamoxifen and the onc explained it was due to the Tamoxifen effect of thickening the womb.
Has anyone experienced a bleed after stopping femara or any of the other aromatase inhibitors?
Am due to see the onc in 2 weeks time but I wanted to know if this has happened to any one else.
Not quite the same but here goes. I stopped Tamoxifen in June after 5 years and am not taking anyytthing now. Two months after stopping Tamoxifen I got a period and now have had 2 more only 19 days apart!!!
I had numerous scans on Tamoxifen the last one only in AUgust so I can only presume it is a massive hormone inbalance due to coming off teh drugs. Maybe yours is the same thing.
I was diagnosed July 2004.Aged 42. Had 5 yrs of Tamoxifen then started straight away on Femara for 3 years. 3 months after starting Femara I had heavy period like bleeding lasted about a week. Hadn’t had a period since chemo and blood test before Femara showed I was post-meno. Onc took me off Femara to check FSH levels again and ultrasound. No problem found so put back on Femara. 2 months later another heavy bleed followed by a lighter one. Onc then referred me to gynae who arranged an hysteroscopy and D & C. Cervical polyps were removed and biopsies of the womb and fibroids taken, all came back clear. The procedure seems to have solved the problem and have been o.k. since. This was about 14 months ago. Still have another 12 months to go on Femara so hope I don’t experience anymore gynae problems. I had lobular b.c. so the gynea issues were a worry.
I would ask your onc for a referal to gynae if he doesn’t automatically do that. Just to be sure all is o.k.
