Bleeding PICC Line

anyone else had trouble with theirs? Mine has been leaking blood where the line itself goes into the skin. The hospital were great and I was able to get the thing looked at and changed but guess what…It is bleeding again…hey ho… these things are sent to try a BabyBoo!

babyboo…
I take it you are having chemo? - If so maybe your platelet count is a bit low hence the leaking picc line??

Just an idea

Hope its ok

Yes, I am having Chemo…had three and three to go…the nurse had trouble getting the line in so had to make a small incision hence the bleeding I think…bit of a pain though!

I am sure it will settle down (thats a professional opininion too!!)

Hi Babyboo,

I bled like mad when they put mine in, the radiographer wanted the consultant to change the dressing then and there after it was done, but he refused as he said it would only bleed more so I came home with this horrible bloody dressing. The next day the district nurse came and changed the dressing and just about had to chip the dried blood off me! After she changed the dressing it still bled a fair amount and I had a nice crusty scab around the tube for at least 3 weeks after that, even with all the dressing changes, so I agree with Fiona that it’s sure to settle down.

OOh thanks a lot…bit of a pain though…
Got some Ibruprufen or however you spell it because I have had pain with it as well…what fun I am having!

Mine continued to bleed for the week that I had it. But the pain could possibly be a sign of a problem depending on where it is and how severe. I had a very painful shoulder (almost unbearable) and had been warned this could be a sign of infection or a blood clot. In my case I had a blood clot. The pain was not around the site where the line was inserted. Have you been given any information about possible side effects?

I hope that your pain is not like this but if it is, you may want to contact your nurse or doctor.

All the best

Anne

I have been told to take ibrubrufin…(sp?) if the pain is annoying and if it gets red or really sore or have a fever then I am to get in contact with the ward…

seems that it is pulling in my arm a bit and driving the car is not too comfy…and I need to use the car…live in the forest so no buses etc.

Will see how it is this week…it could be that it is so new and needs time to settle…watch this space LOL!
