Blood Clots???

Blood Clots???

Blood Clots??? I am panicking a bit about pain in the calf of my leg.
I had the most awful cramp on Wednesday morning and it hurt for 2 days then was slightly better but i have this discomfort in it and a very tiny blue vein which looks odd.

I had alot of probs with this calf after surgery and had scans for possible DVT but fortunately it was ok.

Could anyone who has had a clot tell me what to look for and should i be worried. I dont want to go the docs i think he thinks i imagine everything.
Thanks

Do go to your doctor or phone the hospital! I’m sure I read somewhere that cancer patients and/or those on chemotherapy are more susceptible to blood clots, so you should get it checked out.

Hi Ruth Hi Ruth,

I’ve never had a blood clot or dvt so I can’t tell you what to look for. I did have bad cramps when pregnant and it certainly did hurt for two days and I even had bruising.

There are details of dvt symptoms on dvt.net/allAboutDVT/signsSymptoms.aspx
but be aware that often dvt has no symptoms at all

So what should you do? The bottom line is that it’s important to get things checked out. So go to your GP or ring NHS24 and get some advice.

Best wishes,

Sue

Ruth you must get it checked.
A bit of self help- a small glass of tonic water before bedtime [it’s the quinine] is very good for preventing cramps and eating a chopped clove of garlic [yuck- but not so bad in a cheese sani] regularly is near magical for vein type leg aches. You could try these whilst geeing up the NHS. Best wishes, dilly

For Liverbird Hi
I have a DVT that is being treated at the moment. It happened between the 3rd and 4th chemo. I have had a DVT before 7 years ago after the birth of my second daughter by caesrian section. On both occasions the signs were slightly different. This time my calf is about 2 cms more swollen that the other one. It started as a cramp like pain across my calf which after a few days eased off. But I was then left with a feeling of fullness in the calf which was most noticable when kneeing down or walking up stairs. A DVT is only treated if it has travelled above the knee. To find this out you need a doppler scan. If you are worried your GP can arrange. In my case because I had had one before I was fairly sure that it was this time. So I took myself off to A/E and they arranged the scan there and then.
Having said all that, your chemo finished ages ago, chemo is a risk factor. It is possible that the cramp could have caused the muscle to stay in spasm. Why not see your GP for reassureance.
Good luck
