Blood in stool advice

Sorry for the title ladies but couldn’t think of another way to describe it. I have recently been to the doctors and had a swab because I had a little discharge (awaiting results, she thinks its an infection). Went for my treatment yesterday, Herceptin Pertuzumab got up this morning feeling really well. Went to toilet and saw some brightish blood in/on top of stool and on tissue. Phoned the nurse practioner at hospital for advice. She told me to keep an eye on things. Could be I am still ajusting to the drugs. Also have the feeling of coming on a period despite taking Tamoxifen which could be a contributing factor. My last scans were in September and my body including the met in my liver were clear. My bloods are always good and I always have the blood test that detects if there are any cancer cells roaming around in the blood. I am due for next scans end of March. The onc told me that cancer doesn’t grow that quickly and that every 6 month scans is enough for me.I suppose what i am asking am I over reacting keep thinking the cancer could be on the go again already.I eat well, juice everyday exercise and feel well but then I always have. Sorry to go on ladies but would love some advice. Angela xx

hi there Ellie,

You have alerted the hospital so do as they say - keep an eye on things.

Bright red etc indicates that the bleed is very near the delivery point.  I have experienced similar due to either **bleep** fissures or piles.  Not that uncommon.  If it gets  worse or any other developments do get back to the hospital or your GP - they may have a peek, a bit undignified I know.

Wiping with a damp tissue and a dab of antiseptic cream may help things along.

If you think it is a vaginal bleed I would talk to whoever took the swab - it could be a mini period or an infection if one was found. You could check this by popping in a mini tampon (you may need to add a little lube to do this).

I really hope it settles down.  Good luck - take care
