Hi all, I had a bilateral lumpectomy and removal of 3 lymph nodes on each side back in 2023. As a result, I was told to always have blood pressure measured using the cuff on my leg. Several times I’ve tried this - GP practice nurse, an unrelated trip to A&E and also myself at home, and it comes up as something ridiculously high like 180/115. I have chanced taking bp using arm cuff, and it’s normal, something like 110-120/80. Anyone I’ve mentioned this to at the time seems to brush it off, but how are you supposed to know what your bp actually is if there is no way of measuring it accurately? If anyone else has had this experience I’d be interested to know what you do! TIA.
Hello, I’m no expert, but as you’ve had no other reply I’ll share my experience. I’ve had full clearance on left armpit and sentinel nodes on the right, all a few years ago. I was told not to use the l3ft arm but a consultant has said that its fine to use the right arm for anything, including BP, as it was over 2 years ago and just sentinel nodes. I don’t know how many sentinels they remove but I imagine 2 or 3? I take my bp on right arm regularly. When I was in hospital with a Picc line on the right they did BP below the elbow or on my leg. I gather you have to be sure to have the correct size cuff and leg bp can be a little higher than arm, also different if you are standing/sitting etc. Good luck and hope you stay well xx
