Blood trace in urine - referred to urology. Worried sick.

Hello, me again. My wife now has had a urine test and the GP has referred it to urology because its not an infection?? he says she will need a scan and a camera???

we are now worried sick its sinister and on top of everything else it’s just another thing to deal with

Has anybody else been through this and if so should we be worried?

Everyone is so different that it is hard to know what to say.I have a dear friend who had 2 lots of primary bc then 3 years later had urinary symptoms as you describe which turned out to be a new cancer completely unrelated to the bc.I know that is neither help nor comfort except for the fact that it was in no way related to bc and I am sure there are lots of benign explanations and I hope that is the case for your wife.

Hi Andy, you don’t say if your wife has had chemo - and if so how long ago it was. I know some chemos for bc can cause bladder damage.
Josie.

she is currently on her second cycle of taxotere. Everything the internet tells me is that it wont be related to BC as secondary BC normally occurs in Liver, bones or brain. Doesn’t stop us from being worried sick though

Hi Andy, I had 4xFEC,4xTax and I know that the FEC part can have adverse effects on the bladder. She should be drinking loads of water to flush all the chemo out. I never seemed to be able to drink enough and have had ongoing bladder problems ever since.

Hi there. I’m 43 and I was diagnosed with BC in April 09, 6xFEC, 25 rads. End of chemo had a lot of back & hip pain. Had some scans done, half way through rads, oncologist confirmed I had a malignant tumour in kidney. I too was referred to the Urologist to discuss removal of kidney. It was pure luck that they found it and it was TOTALLY unrelated to the breast cancer - it’s not a natural path for BC to spread to kidney. It was a fairly big tumour but low grade and the kidney was completely removed in November. It was a bit of a pain because I thought I was so nearly ending treatment, but all in all it just turned out to be an unfortunate blip. All is very well now, I’m in excellent medical hands, have a good prognosis and am very positive about the whole experience. It was only November that I finished rads, end of November had the kidney whipped out and now I’m back at work, full-time, having a blast and have even gone back to the gym. Don’t get me wrong, I do have my dark moments but I try to keep busy and surround myself with lovely people. Try not to worry too much, I know that’s easier said that done, but we’re in good hands with these brilliant medical people. I wish you well. Sue
