After having both a digital bi-lateral mammogram and ultrasound yesterday; I talked to the Oncology PA about the discharge I have in both breasts. Very long story short; I am now scheduled to meet for a consult with a breast surgeon along with the PA - on Tuesday about having a bilateral duct excision done. So, there is only a 10% chance it is cancer however due to a lot of (non-genetic) breast and ovarian cancer in my family; they don’t want to take any chances. My question is - Is it necessary for this surgery to accomplish their findings? Can’t the discharge alone be tested? I am just concerned about unnecessary surgery if the same goal can be accomplished without it. Was also told about the preventative breast cancer protocol in which I would be taking taxotier for 5 years which would studies show would reduce my risk of getting any type of breast cancer by 50%. I’m so numb today and would love to hear from anyone who can help.
