Blooming drain!!

Hi, had Mx and sentinel node biopsy on Wed 12/12/12 (not a date I will forget in a hurry). Came home with drain in. Tend to get up and walk off, leaving it hangin on chair arm! Any way, cos of arthritis have difficulty pumping balloon up and getting the bung in before it goes down. Can anyone tell me what this balloon is for? And any tips in doing this trick without resorting to commandeering poor hubby’s help.

I think the balloon is to provide a little suction to the drain. Aren’t they a pain!!

Don’t talk to me!! Finally got rid of mine yesterday after 28 days!!! Make sure you pull balloon in really tight to get correct suction!!
Xx

I have a pump in the top. It’s hard enough pumping it up, but when I stop to push the bung in, it goes down again!! Had to get hubby to pump it, then quickly push bung in while he was still pumping. Thankfully I’m having mine out on Monday. The armpit side of scar is swollen, don’t know if that’s because of bruising or what. But It’s really sore looking. I’ve just put some emollient cream on sore parts, as they are also itchy. Thanks for comments xxx pg

Have decided swelling is a seroma, as it seems to have shrunk a bit and it is all soft and pappy but not painful. So hopefully it might eventually disappear.

Hi all,
I too had MX with AX removal and have a drain did have two got rid of one am totally fed up and emotional not being able to do things i want to hope this awful thing will be out soon gonna speak to my team tomoz just cant cope need to go xmas pressie shopping without having to be stared at with this awful thing sticking out. grrrrrrr

Thanks for all comments. Jansim, know exactly what you mean. I daren’t even wash my hair or have a proper shower. Thankfully the district nurse came today (17th) and took the thing out. Am I glad to get rid of it. I couldn’t dress properly with it in, so didn’t go out at all. You’re very brave if you have done so. Don’t think I could fit myself and drain onto the bus seat.
