What do you do to stop the body oder from radiation if washing does not work and you cant use deodorant?
Hi fellow soldier. Having gone through radiotherapy, i can definitely say i wasnt troubled by any body odour. I received radiation to under arm, neck and breast x 15 sessions. After you come off the bed yes you feel cooked but not the sweating type like youve done a gym workout. I was told i could use deodorant as long as i didnt overdue the spray. Just wear something loose, easy to remove and natural fibre. With the possibility of burns i would invest in some nonperfumed moisturiser they will advise whats best as everyones skin is different. I did sadly burn on the collarbone bone area but the hospital gave me some special radiation cream. With regard to body odour I have noticed since my mamoplasty that i no longer sweat like I did before. The only time i noticed it was immediately after my op when I wasnt allowed to shower. Please speak with the radiotherapy team with any queries and at every session they shoukd ask if you have any concerns.
I wasn’t told I couldn’t use deodorant at all just not to have it on during the treatments . Some of my treatments were in the morning in which case I didn’t put it on that day until afterwards . When they were in the afternoon I put it on in the morning and washed it off before setting off for the hospital. I used a stick deodorant so I could better control where it went and was careful to put it on just a small area . However my treatment was full breast radiotherapy - nothing to the axilla and I used Dove. Since then I’ve tried various natural and aluminum free ones and ended up going back to Dove. In the Radiotherapy suite I was in I changed in a room that had a sink so I would have been able to have a quick wash if I had felt the need. I have heard of people using chlorhexidine wipes in place of deodorant . Xx
