Body Odour During Treatment

Hi, I’m new here. Was diagnosed in April this year through a routine mammogram, had operation to remove tumour then they found another so had to have a second operation. Luckily I only need radiotherapy.

I would like to ask if anyone else has had this issue, I’m about 6 weeks into the Tamoxifen and 6 sessions in on radiotherapy and I feel like my right armpit where the cancer was and radiotherapy is been given is starting to smell, I have never had smelly arm pits before, so is this due to the tablets or the radiotherapy, I have asked the question and the nurses are unsure so just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Thank you and love to all Xx

Sorry you notice an odor, but glad you posted this. I too noticed a slight odor under my armpit before I bathe. I thought it might be because I use a deodorant and not an antiperspirant anymore. I was recommended to use Clear deodorant by a friend of mine who had cancer a long time ago. I am going to ask the nurse in the oncologist radiation office and see what she says. Never connected it to radiation. Thx for posting.

Hi dear I started chemo with AC then after 4 AC I will start paclitaxel for another 4 cycles. I smelled it after the first chemotherapy session, a persistent smell of wet dog, I have never felt it before, but I was advised by the nurses not to use antiperspirant or hygiene products with parabens and aluminum, so free of these.I chose vishy and sanex deodorant and it is very good.Try Dove sensitive soap for body wash, it is the smell and keeps the skin more velvety I have full mastectomy and under arm almost all lymph nodes removed All my best with your treatment.Take care all, and keep positive

Hello Beatitbelly

I developed a smelly right armpit after treatment. I only had op and radiotherapy. Also lost bottom half of armpit hair - there’s a distinct line where the loss starts. I presume from radiotherapy. I’m 9 months post radiotherapy.

It smells of normal underarm just much more potent. I’m using stong cream antiperspirants to keep it at bay. Ordinary antiperspirants don’t do the job. Never thought of any risk from these?

I also got sweat generally after coming off hrt (and other body changes too probably from no hrt).

Wishing you well

I had spare deoderant in my work locker. Pleased to tell you that it does go away. Took about 6 months so dont worry x
